Good point about wifi for big stuff, I guess I can still get my Lotus Notes through the wifi at work and don’t have to work my way up and down the 4G network. Maybe a tiered plan won’t be such a big deal…
im actually pretty pissed off about tiered plans for a few reasons,
-
its more than at&t for the same cap limit
-
we now only get 2gb to work with?? i dont care if i dont get near that now (which i dont) but 4g is coming/here, verizon loads phones with apps that use lots of data (skype, netflix etc…) and now they start capping to get more money which brings me to the next one.
-
netflix/google movies just got released and i plan on using them so i can only watch one movie a month basically. Now i know someone is going to say well why are you watching movies on anything other than wifi. well i am not always around a wifi connection and if i am near a wifi connection its probably going to be at someones house where i can watch movies with other means
-
tethering, why are they still charging additionally for tethering on a capped plan?? if i am paying for 2gb of data i should be able to use it however i want whether it be on the phone or from my phone through my tablet, data is data and it is all coming from the same place through the same connection!
just more verizon BS to get the most from me
Same here about the Bionic. Rumors are pointing to a release July 4th weekend. Nothing official or confirmed, who knows at this point.

Current VZW customers can keep their current plans regardless of upgrading?
According to our friends on the inside and that screenshot above (which is unfortunately partially cut off), existing customers may be able to keep their current pricing and data plan when renewing or upgrading
This has probably been covered already but the search kind of blows. I want to tether my Verizon Incredible to my Ipad for my drive to Colorado, I assume I have to root my phone? Any guides/tips or things to be careful of?
good luck, verizon has been blocking all tethering apps. its pretty tough to tether without paying verizon $20 for 1GB
I too have been tryiong to find a way around it since i will be going on a trip soon and want to tether to my samsung galaxy tab
Hmm, i used z4root to do a temporary root, and used “wireless tethering” and it seemed to work fine, the little bit I messed around with. Really only using it to browse the internet occasionally so I don’t know hopefully I won’t have a problem.
Well I made the jump to the android phone. I got a Inspire 4g really cheap so figured I would try it out. Its pretty cool and love the screen. I rooted it last night so now I am just working on getting the bloatware off it before I start installing my own stuff.
Working on rooting the Epic now…
Edit: Done
Working on removing bloatware from fggt sprint…
I’m running peter alfonso’s base gingerbread rom. With an 800Mhz overclock. It’s pretty solid.
Looks like I’ll be grabbing a Droid X2 this week to make sure I get on an unlimited data plan. Counting up my data (or what I think it’ll be) I will be at or above 2GB without much effort.
Going Droid X2 over the other options because the dual core processor is “future proof”, meaning it’ll still have life in a couple of years when I’m due for another upgrade. I like the feel of the hardware. I figure support from various sources is probably best with Moto over the other 4G options right now. Amazon will sell me one for $120 right now…
Am I right? Crazy in thinking that?
So what has people been using for bloatware. I have been reading about its possible to just delete the apps you dont want but you wont get over the air updates so its better to freeze them and unfreeze them when required.
With it rooted, do most people do OTA updates or more at their own pace?
Funny comparison when the X2 isn’t 4G…

Seeing as how you might get one, maybe two OTA updates over the life of the phone I wouldn’t worry about it. If you’re much of a geek you’ll be running a leak of the update long before Verizon makes it official anyway.
I used Titanium Backup to delete them…haven’t had any problems yet.
future proof with no 4g? lol

OTA updates? F that. Cyanogenmod 7 FTW
I doubt 4G will be in 100% of the USofA anytime soon, it’ll take a few years. So 3G is “acceptable” when I want to jump on an unlimited data plan. Dual core is the direction most phones are headed (unless they go quad core…), so software will be written with this in mind. Meaning the single core phones may get left behind in future Android updates.
My comment about the Moto device having support over the other options I’m looking at, all of which are 4G, stems from the fact it appears Moto devices have a stronger following than Samsung (Droid Charge) or the LG Revolution. I’m well aware that the DX2 is 3G, I just meant it was the device I’m looking at over the other options, which includes 4G devices.
4G is rolling of FAST, definitely will not take a few years. Within the next 1 year, most markets will be covered.
The motorola following is dropping off. With locked bootloaders, many people are switching to HTC (who has already stated that they will no longer lock bootloaders) and Samsung. Samsung is in bed with google BIG TIME right now. Expect Samsung to keep up with upgrades really well into the future.
fyi, droid-life.com posted a video this morning of a Samsung Droid Charge running Gingerbread. Also, Droid-Life has specific details on contract renewals and KEEPING unlimited data. You don’t have to upgrade now to keep your unlimited plan!!
Also, you have no idea what you’re talking about with the dual-core stuff. While I don’t completely disagree completely, I wouldn’t worry that much about it. Dual Core will not likely be a requirement for future upgrades.
Most markets yes, not the whole country. I’m aware it is already where I live, but I’ve dealt with enough of 4G dropouts (mobile hotspot) to know that it’s not stable yet. I don’t have time to wait for a glitch-free 4G phone running a dual core processor, I NEED to get on the unlimited plan now and save $20-$30/month.
I’d prefer to wait for the Droid 3 (still only 3G) or the Bionic, but neither will be out in the next week. My next upgrade will be 4G when this is mature and I am already on an unlimited plan (assuming they let me keep it…).
Again, go to droid-life.com
you don’t need to upgrade now to keep unlimited
I DO NOT HAVE A DATA PLAN RIGHT NOW. I WILL NEED TO BE ON ONE BEFORE THE 7TH IN ORDER TO KEEP AN UNLIMITED PLAN.
