ok, so I tried the new bolt browser, after reading about how good it was on crackberry.

Its got some potential, but it scrolls slow, and isnt any faster then the native browser. lots of gay. already deleted it.

FYI, Slacker for the Storm was released today.

Bolt for Storm is actually really good.

With some quirks though - it takes a little longer to load everything, but once it’s load it’s tits.

However, needing to reload the entire page when I switch from portrait to landscape = the fuck?

so I’m trying out opera mini (finally)…

how do I make this the default browser?

oh, and, got a curve (83xx or 8900)?

free tetris. done well, too.

Does anyone know if the bold is coming out for anything other than AT+T. I’m thinking about picking up a bb, and have sprint. I’d consider switching to verizon… ive used the storm, and am uncertain about it.

there are rumors. RIM is pretty good about spreading around the wealth over all carriers…

it’s gonna be a bit though. I just saw a pic of a pearl flip that had VZW branding on it.

Dunno if it makes a difference for you, but I love my curve.

word the curve is still a very good device.

TBH the product itself doesn’t need to be super new and state of the art. Frankly I’ve never been someone that cares about having the newest gadgets etc… I had just heard that the Bold was really good.

Simply I need to be able to check my stocks anytime I want, there are some applications that run with BBs. Thats basically the only need I have for one, but it’s enough of a reason to own a BB.

Jeff/Rob, would the curve be fine?

give it a shot, there is a 30 day return policy.

i think you will like it. the OS runs fast, is very stable, and has some great apps.

I’m sorry for all the idiot questions, truly I’m a retard with technology. Do I need Verizon? Or does Sprint have a curve with a 30 day policy? I’ve heard that Sprint’s wireless is faster

they are both evdo rev 0, so in theory speeds are the same. vzw is going to have the larger footprint. some real life tests show sprint being faster in some areas, I always joke around that there are far fewer people using the network.

vzw also uses cdma 850 and 1900, whereas sprint only uses 1900 (native). the 850 signal is more peneratrable, so in buildings its possible to get a better signal with vzw than with sprint.

sprint has some great deals on service, but off the top of my head vzw’s hardware is cheaper.

i believe sprint has a 30 day return policy, but things may be different for current customers.

I’ve never really see people on Sprint with Blackberries.

Do they have an different plan for BES/BIS? I would assume so but I know sprint is pretty desperate for business so they may not…

My device list in Chronological order :

5800, 7290, 7130e, 8700, 8703e, 8130, 8100, 8800, 8830, 8820, 8330, 9000, 9530

Honestly, the Curve is a more solid product than most of the Blackberries I’ve used. Considering it has media capabilities, expansion capabilities, and most importantly : More RAM than most of the other Blackberries, it is by far the most stable, fastest, and intuitive of the Blackberry series. The OS is tried and true, needs very little updating, and provides a good mix of performance, power consumption, and usability. There is very little people need to “learn” when it comes to picking up a Blackberry, especially the Curve. The only thing that I had a problem with was the sort of “light” feel the unit had - I thought I would have to baby it and not be rough with it like I have been with previous models. I found that to be quite the opposite, and this thing has taken many a beating, drops, and conversations in the heavy rain with no umbrella.

Older units such as the 7000 series and the 8700 series were rock solid beyond their years… they would take the heaviest beating and still work. While intuitive and relatively easy to navigate, the rollerball pretty much made the Blackberry so much more versatile (imagine trying to navigate around a webpage with a 2 direction thumb scroller…)

The Blackberries with suretype weren’t as intuitive for normal users, obviously, but you’d be surprised how quickly you can pick up on it, and how quickly you can type on it as well.

Regarding the Bold : I had a user come back from Hong Kong with one a little while before it was available in the US. I played around with it roaming on our AT&T network for about 3 weeks before I had to return the device to him. Simply put : the Bold is probably the nicest Blackberry I have ever laid eyes on. The fit and finish is superb, the trackball is accurate, the keys are perfectly sized, even for my fat ass finger. The screen is crisp, sharp, and delivers great resolution. The processor is blazing fast - and the OS is well suited for it. Everything you want to do is done in an instant when you click, maybe even faster than all of the other Blackberries. It is feature laden, and I am in love with the leather backing it has. It is the quintisential “ultimate Blackberry”. However, it does have it’s issues. The OS isn’t COMPLETELY stable on it - I think they have had too many developers working on Storm patches lol. I mean, it is rock solid, but still had some issues with media when I played with it. The battery also sucked ass. I found myself playing with the Bold a lot, and with my email laden workday - I’d get about a day out of it. That’s less than 24 hours. I also did use it much, much more than an average user, however the battery life on my Curve was far superior… and we are comparing power-sucking CDMA vs power-sipping GSM. And no, the phone did not hop on the 3G network.

I currently have the Storm. I do like it, sorta. It’s not a horrible product, but it’s not the polished product that I have seen RIM come out with time and time again. It was a rush job and I commend them for their efforts on releasing something that is not in their normal realm - a full touchscreen. The basic functionality of the Blackberry still retains it’s prowess on the Storm and gives it a superior “work first” mindset with users over other PDA phones.

Uh, yeah. :meh:

Testing has revealed that Verizon does has more users per tower - that would probably do it.

i want to say sprint just came out with a new release of the curve but i cant recall the model number.

Sprint just released the new version of the OS software, if that’s what you are talking about…

Unless you’re talking about that Curve with the shit-ass PTT 8350…

we do a fair amount here. its the same kind of plan, but the unlimited everything for $99 is a really good deal - as long as it works where you need it to.
