Man what to do what to do…
We are potentially switching over 40 or so users from Nextel to VZW (through Jeff hopefully) and I know I can swing the swap.
ATT/Bold that I have now, or go with VZW/Tour… hrmmm
I’d do ATT/iPhone or VWZ/Tour. ATT/Bold definitely is ftl compared to VZW/Tour. Unless you like to use data while on a call (I never do).
I thought the Bold is a higher end device than the Tour is supposed to be?
Kinda a wash.
Tour has:
Better camera
Twice as much RAM-style memory (256mb)
Verizon network
Bold has:
Wi-fi
Slightly faster processor
Data+talk simultaneous capable
hmm, bold sounds better to me. But I prefer the AT&T network.
Fair enough. Wifi sounds nice, but in practice I don’t think it’s something I’d use much. Especially if it hits the battery as hard as people make it seem.
I’m definitely not an ATT network fan, but I guess it depends on where you live and what you do. It’s not so great around here. Seemed like it was fine in Rochester though.
But basically, the Tour is supposed to be very similar to the Bold. I’ve heard that the slower proc is due to the chipset needed to run CDMA, the added memory is going to be a HUGE bonus though. Especially when 5.0 is released. Either device should be super solid.
REV A EVDO will be WiFi speeds. I’m already paying for unlimited data. Having another radio in there would only be a bigger drain on the battery. If I’m ever somewhere that doesnt have cell service, I would bet they don’t have wifi either.
+1. I don’t work in a concrete basement sealed off from radio signals…and even the current data speeds easily keep up with my streaming needs. No wifi needed here either!
The only time in my life that i find that wifi would be handy is in my job I have to set up wireless access points that communicate with handheld scanners. Having wifi on my device would be a big help but i just got a net book so that takes care of that for now.
AHH no wifi on the Tour? Booo to that…
The only thing I like that the Tour has over the Bold is size… that’s it.
I still don’t get why people are so hung up on having WiFi on their devices.
When you work in places that are built to withstand hurricane/tornado conditions even with repeater systems, signal is shit. 
And the RAM. I guess you could count the camera, but it’s a non-issue for me.
Camera/RAM really arent an issue to me as camera I rarely use and RAM I don’t have issues running my Bold (if it is at 50%).
WiFi makes a big difference to some people.
If you have AT&T, unlike VZW, you don’t need to have a data plan. For people who are around wifi most of the day, it saves you $30 a month to only use that.
If you’re in an area with PCS band, signal sucks indoors. You can pull a hell of a lot better speed off a wireless network than one bar of HSDPA/EVDO.
There are some things that just work better over a home connection. Even 3G, latency is the suck. I also got bitched at by my carrier once for downloading a bunch of torrents on my phone.
Not to mention, backing up your phone to your PC over wi-fi is super easy if you don’t have a USB cable for it.
i want an always available connection. $30 is worth it. A blackberry without a data plan is for poor people.
When we have that rager at my cabin I am going to make fun of you every couple minutes when you have no service.
