Stepping up to all grain?

I want in on some of that oatmeal stout Jam!!!

Yessir. Going to have @BREETIME build me a keggle! Just need to drop it off. Going to be using the brew in bag system

Nice, most people I know BIAB on the stovetop still. I brew all grain-10 gallon batches.

Are there cost advantages to homebrewing vs buying craft stuff or is it purely a hobby thing? Seems like you’d have to do quite a bit to recoup the cost of all the supplies.

Purely for awesome fun. Over time there may be advantages but I don’t think that any one who home-brews does it to save $$.

Aww, brewing on the stove, that’s cute.

Heisenbeer, I presume?

@JayS i will have a similar set up in a few months! really looking forward to it
@focusinprogress next week!

^ It’s actually a friend’s setup, we just use my garage a lot since he doesn’t have one and his operation has grown too much to do inside his house.

In terms of cost I think it would take a lot of frat boy levels of drinking to pay off all the shit he has. The 13.5% Belgian we made last year was phenomenal though and on par with many of the best Belgian’s I’ve had from Premier.

The funny part was to get to that level of alcohol without over stressing the yeast we had to use candi sugar. We made our own and it comes out on trays that you then break. Had it been blue instead of brown it would have looked just like Walt’s Blue Sky.

test tube beaker science experiment looking yeast starter lol.

Sitting on top of one of those magnetic auto-stir rigs no less.

You people and your big money setups, lol. Here is our 7 gallon cooler setup during a typical brew day.

I’m considering a cooler mash tun. Some people use crazy mash tuns. One guy uses an old bottling bucket, wrapped in bubble wrap and a sleeping bag, with a stainless pasta collander and a bag on the inside of the spout. Total cost, around $6 lol

We have had great luck with it. Even on the 5deg brew days this winter, the mash only dropped a few degrees over the hour.

Had a small haul this weekend

Three Floyds! Want to share some ZD?

Sorry all the ZD is spoken for.
