The front loaded contract doesn’t do anything to the cap space on the entire team. The average is 6.5, so he doesn’t account for quite that amount.

i really don’t think its based off the average… i think it has to do with what he will be paid that year… obviously philly thinks they can get breire when he is 34-36 for cheap and have their upcoming talent primed and ready to go for big contracts to spank the competition…
souray is a big guy, good in the corners, just lacks that one on one defensive ability… and Huet didn’t have the ability miller did to stop that threat.
The sabres key problem last year was the PP, I think they spark that… they can be much much more effective when it matters (the playoffs)
I agree. Taking it to extremes for example, based on what you are saying, you can pay someone to come play for you and pay them the first year 50 mil and 1 mil the next 9 years and it would only count for 5.9 mil a year on your salary cap?
briere is getting paid 10 mil - year one 8 mil 8 mil, 7mil 6mil 3mil 2 mil 2mil… or something like that so it is rather extreme… so i can’t imagine it just being the average,
