***Official Healthy Eating Banter Thread***

Since the actual workout thread has been taken over buy discussing healthy eating, lets move the convo over to here.

So lets talk about how to eat well. What to eat to lose weight, to gain weight, to feel good, to live long.

I’ll start, because I’m incredibly important in my own mind. ::mpd:

Of course you’re hungry. You didn’t eat much. I assume this is breakfast, so for one stop buying into stupid fads and eat the yokes too. That’s where all the protein and nutrients are, studies have shown that even eating 3 whole eggs a day doesn’t touch your blood cholesterol numbers, blah blah blah. That granola bar might as well have been a snickers bar. Nothing but sugar. Ditch it. Replace it with a whole wheat english muffin with peanut butter. And what’s breakfast without a meat? Add in a slice of canadian bacon.

i cant eat healthily… mcdonalds, bk, arbys, tacobell, etc etc. are wayyyyyy to convenient when im driving home and hungry at that exact point.

soooo healthy… is out.

i still maintain a boyish figure of 145 lbs and 5’11ish frame.

Well on behalf of the rest of us: Fuck you! How old are you Will?

In addition to trying to eat well, I started a week ago supplementing with:

-Daily multivit
-Daily Fish oil cap
-Daily Co Q10

And holy hell do I feel better already. So much more energy during the day. I’ve also been paying attention to trying to get enough sleep too, which I’m sure has helped.

This is not very “Oficial”

I diet 4 days a week to maintain my wait, and I have to diet 7 days to lose weight. I have crappy metabolism. Both of these including working out 5-7 times a week (Free weights/Cardio). My diet consists of Very Low Calorie/Low carbs.

give it another 5 years

i always try to shorten my wait, not maintain it.

1000-1500 calories of whatever the hell i want. I can’t eat anything anyway so i might as well enjoy the little I can eat.

Good Job fixing the title, Fry.

I’m having a hard time losing weight now. My body fat was 31% and now its down to 16.5%. I have built up quite a bit of muscle too.

i keep forgetting to make egg salad.

i eat scrambled eggs everyday during the week. i am so goddamn sick of eggs in the morning, all i want is a god damned bowl of cereal.

i eat so much f’in salad with chicken breast its disgusting. every day. fml.

i eat lots of nuts, nohomo. works great for me for a snack at work.

I have gradually shifted most of everything in my fridge to Organic sources. The best is traders point creamery. Delicious. It’s a place in Zionsville, IN that has a 100% grass fed free range herd. The milk and yogurt is amazing.

I offset the cost of buying organic by limiting how much I eat out. Except for my pizza review blog…I have to eat pizza once a week.

For red meat I tend to stick to Buffalo it’s very delicious and leaner than most skinless chicken. It’s also illegal to use growth hormones and antibiotics on game meat. And seeing as how they are grass fed and natural ruminants, well, antibiotics are not needed. I’m a big fan of controlling what goes into my body and I can do this a little better when I prepare food at home rather than buying out and wondering about the sources of most of the stuff on my plate.

We incorporate many ancient grains and leafy vegetables where we can. Fiber helps the regulate your digestion and digestion regulates the quality of your life.

I’m debating on moving to a raw food diet soon. And, maybe, making my own sushi at home. I have all the stuff to do it, just need to try it.

I love BBQ, however after eating well for a while and detoxifying my body of all the shit we ingest on a regular basis when I do have BBQ or some sort of highly processed food like Pizza, you can really feel the physiological and psychological effects on your body. I feel sluggish, lethargic, and plain down when I eat like crap.

Word on the eggs. My arms are so tired from cracking eggs. Every morning its either hard boiled egg whites, or scrambled egg whites. I think tuna fish/egg whites mixed tastes decent on a sandwitch for mega protein. Ive been eating lots of chicken breast with A-1 sauce for dipping, and that is awesome.

I personally never believed in any of these fad diets. I know there is research behind them but you have to ask yourself why someone would research something like this. The only answer is because there is money to be made from it.

We didn’t have these diets for thousands of years…we survived and in great health and shape. Why not just vary your diet by eating whole foods watching your calorie intake? If you are looking to maintain or increase muscle mass just add some natural protein to the mix (fish is the only source of animal protein that is fully digestible and supplies all 9 essential amino acids).

You may be limiting some foods for varied reasons but you are limiting many nutrients that are much more digestible in their natural form rather than in supplements.

Whole food is all you need. Sorry for all the questions, Nutrition is something I have been studying (informally) for a few years now, and no not the internet. I have shelf of college texts regarding the subject and the most common thread amongst all of them is that whole foods, prepared properly, limiting your intake and exercise is all you need to achieve homeostasis and proper health. Of course assuming you have no debilitating diseases and or auto immune issues.

Also, why not hard boiled eggs, easy snack, can take them anywhere and they are so delicious.

I am frustrated because I have been eating healthier and only about 1/2 of what I used to eat. I have only lost 8 lbs. I used to go out to lunch everyday and eat candy bars everyday. I would think by now I would have lost 30 lbs. lol I have only eaten lunch 4 times this year and only had like 2 candy bars!!! I have not been to McDonalds, Burger King or Pizzahut since the first week of January, that has got to be at leasts 20 million calories saved! lol

Funny how 100 years ago that was just called “eating.” Now eating real “food” is a movement rather than nature.

I blame WWII for the Haber-Bosch process that brought us synthetic fertilizers and Nixon’s farm bill for making corn cheaper than it costs to grow it so it’s artifically jacked up the calories and down the nutrients in everything.

I’m not nearly as dedicated as you, but I try to only eat things that I could recognize in nature. Supplements excluded.

Today’s eating, which is pretty typical (or at least what I try for typical):

Smoothie for breakfast (milk, yogurt, protein powder, peanut butter, banana, blueberries)

Fruit & nuts for a snack.

Homemade turkey soup for lunch. (Boiled whole turkey with garlic, onions, rosemary, celery seed, and fennel, strained the broth, tossed the meat back in the broth, added carrots, peas, corn, celery.)

Chicken breast for a snack.

Go to the gym after work, then I think I’m going to gorge myself on a huge steak and beer tonight. It’s friday! Though the more I eat healthy the less junk food appeals. I may do a half grass fed sirloin with mushrooms and onions and some asparagus. Then go out and drink beers with cougarspeed. (Last night dinner was two whole wheat wraps of chicken breast, sour cream, avacado, and chedder cheese)

Then usually a smoothie or milk & protein and some whole fruit before bed.

Scales suck. Do you feel better? Are you still using your walker?

:mamoru: Couldn’t resist. :io:

I always forget about this. Thanks!

Its a bitch on the tread mill at the Senior Center. It gets tangled sometimes.
Scales do suck, my clothes feel a little better. lol

You must eat to keep your metabolism moving. Try many small meals (snacks) over the course of the day.

I agree it’s kind of sad.

There are some really interesting documentaries about the subject.

Covers all of what was talked about mostly.
