Thanks for the info. I picked up some coconut nectar, which is apparently really low on the GI, isnt full of fructose, and tastes pretty damn good. I have some wegmans unsalted butter right now, I’ll have to give your kerrygold brand a shot when im out.
I usually don’t have bad breath actually. Only if I have something like a post-nasal drip sore throat. Then I’m like a goddamned shit dragon. Gross.
Coconut nectar? Sounds interesting. Definitely just play around. See what you like, what works. If all else fails just drink your coffee how you want and focus elsewhere.
Here’s where I got the butter/coconut oil idea from. He recommends butter and MCT oil, but I don’t feel like ponying up for the oil so I figure coconut is full of medium chain triglycerides anyway.

He’s got some pretty good graphics to check out. Does a good job of showing that health is a continuum, not binary.
Actually, he’s got a bit on sweeteners. I haven’t checked any of this myself, but the guy is pretty legit so I’d be inclined to believe this:
Do they sell Xylitol at weggers? I’m waiting to see when this diet/routine gets debunked and we should be doing something different.
they sell stevia at amherst st, saw it there yesterday.
Well it’s been working for a few million years now so I think it’s at least in the right ballpark…
All I’m saying is one person says coffee is bad, one says it’s good. Carbs are bad, carbs are good. More sugar, less sugar. It’s a revolving door or health information that is overwhelming.
I’ll try this stuff out (Gradually) and see how it goes.
Yeah nutrition advice tends to be a clusterfuck. It’s hard to sift through.
eh, i feel like there are some decisions you need to make for yourself though. Ideally I’d love to eat nothing but grass fed meat, but im just not willing to use up that much of my budget for it.
I’m not giving up coffee, and I dont want to drink it black.
I’m not giving up beer, but I’v already cut way back on it.
I’m good with cutting out grains, but not carbs (read as fruit). I felt like a bag of dicks when I did a month and a half of keto a few years ago.
Yep. Most people don’t need to be a world class athlete, just live a long life and still be able to get a boner at 50. There will be some genetic losers or some who abused their body and have to pay the price now who will need to be super strict, but most people don’t need to be neurotic.
Oh, and coffee is good for you. So are carbs, as long as you match them to your work output (and genetics and fat-loss needs.) There’s a reason why we have a fuck ton more amylase enzymes than even our closest relative primates: we’ve evolved to digest starches/carbs. We’re not evolved to be sedentary all damn day though. Or eat grains. The neolithic revolution (farming) was only 10,000 years ago and we’ve been around in largely this form for 2 million years. 10,000/2,000,000 = 0.5% of our history eating grains. That’s not to say that you eat what cave men ate and that’s the end of it. We’re not cave men. We’ll never duplicate the lifestyle, and if we did we’d probably die from accident or contagious disease anyway. But claiming that health is our birthright and using evolution to generate hypothesis about what we’re supposed to eat that we then test with science is turning out to be remarkably useful. [sarcasm]Fucking surprise.[/sarcasm]
I had Indian food last night, what a great way to lose weight!
Where do you guys get grass feed beef locally?
Going to try this diet out when I get home
Wegmans has some. $5.50/lb for ground beef and it goes up from there. Lexington market or places like Feel Rite might, but I’d expect it to be obscenely expensive. If you’re serious about wanting to eat grass fed your best bet is to buy in bulk from a farmer. There’s a farm between buffalo and rochester that has a retail outlet with regular hours. I went to their farm a couple of times before they opened it. The prices are more reasonable than stores.

Or there are other farms in the area you can order a portion or whole steer from. My inlaws are grass-fed-only paleo nuts and they order from Freeman Homestead.
More resources here.

I probably 50% on whether I pony up for grass fed/organic/wild caught meats and fishes. It’s important to get your omega 3’s up and omega 6’s down, and avoid micronutrient defficiencies, but you don’t need to bankrupt yourself to try paleo. Just get lean cuts of conventional meat and take your fish oil.
Also T-meadow Pork products (local) is supposed to be pretty good as well.
I just downloaded the eBook from a site you mentioned reading it now
God I love inflight WiFi
Pure stevia is super super sweet and has a weird aftertaste. You need like 1/10 the amount of white sugar.
What’s wrong with splenda?
Just hard boiled eggs for tomorrow’s breakfast.
Artificial sweeteners are terrible for your gut flora and also promote cravings for sweets. Chemically, splenda is closer to pesticides than sugar and there is increasing evidence that it is being linked to cancer.
On the positive side, it’s zero calorie!!! Lol.
Was doing great on food today…Then someone brought us a dozen Paula’s Donuts for fixing her computer.
If I were to eat a bunch of guacamole to get my daily dose of avocado, has anyone come up with a good thing to eat it with? I’m assuming nacho chips aren’t paleo friendly, are there any things similar to that that can be used?
Also Fry, when you did the bulletproof coffee in the morning was that in addition to eating breakfast? I’ve been reading about it online hearing people talk about only having a cup of bulletproof coffee in the morning and that holding them over til lunch. I feel like not eating breakfast goes against the whole point of drinking this healthier coffee.
