Sweet
It’s the little things in life…
yea it works great… haven’t gotten around to “acquiring” a copy yet
define “sign”, why couldn’t you install this program without signing up for something? i’m lost somewhere. i’m on AT&T, would i have to also register to be able to sign this program to use it?
In order to run software on Symbian, that software must be “Symbian Signed” meaning it has been through the testing required and meets all standards.
I don’t know why the person who created that software wouldn’t take the steps to get it “signed” in the first place, but he gives steps for people to get around the Symbian Signed limitations.
I’m not sure about on the e71, but on the AT&T handicapped e71x, you cannot install software that isn’t “signed” whatever that means. (See Onyx’s previous post.) Free-iSMS isn’t signed, so to install it you need to sign it. So you upload your IMEI to that chinese developers website, and a few hours later you can download your own key and certificate. These are specific to your phone, so as long as you have that phone you can “sign” any application you want and install it on your phone.
I didn’t look too far into it, but supposedly you can run “HelloOX2” on the e71x to hack it so that you no longer need apps to be signed. Just signing apps seemed easier.
i turned off online certificate check under settings in the application manager, is this something else?
Yep.
So I’m using Nokia Messaging. The automatic delivery works instantly. But no notification of a new email? :wtf:
Im really liking my new Samsung Jack…as much as I wanted to get off of Win Mobile :uhh:
Should hold me over til there’s an N900 equivalent with 850 band, at the minimum.
Eh, between winmo, BB, and Symbian I’m finding that I like WinMo the best. I really like how small the e71x is and don’t want to pay $350 for a phone, otherwise I’d have traded it in for the TP2 or whatever it’s called on AT&T. Tilt 2…
If you decide you’re not a Symbian guy check out the Jack…I just got this one brand new for $120 off craigslist…I am VERY impressed so far.
In other news, Nokia just filed a suit against Apple: http://www.reuters.com/article/ousivMolt/idUSTRE59L3QU20091022
This is actually a big suit and something to watch because almost all phone producers (including Apple) use and pay for these systems that Nokia has developed… but Apple hasn’t paid.
i’ve yet to get nokia messaging to work with mine, always got xpress mail conflicts and ghost boxes. i need to sit down and brick/format and try again, which file/phone application did you use?
I hope they take Apple to the cleaners. Steve Jobs loves to assume the rules don’t apply to him.
One problem I know of was when I had Thunderbird (email program) open on my computer it threw off the new mail notifications because the mail wasn’t “new.” If my program on my computer picked up the email first, it would be sent to my phone but not as new because Thunderbird saw the email first.
How’s the speakerphone? The phone is so small that it’s to be expected, but the speaker on the e71 is useless.
Interesting. Will watch…
I signed up/set up my account here first, then installed via the download link they SMS’d me. It works well, but without the new mail notification (I guess it vibrates once when the mail arrives) and without being able to remap the messaging button to Nokia Mail, it seems kind of useless. I dunno, maybe if I uninstall Xpress mail Nokia Mail will become the default mail handler and be accessed via the Messaging button?
:word:
I don’t have any programs that access my gmail account, which is what I use. That may help my cause.
Oh hold the phone! (So to speak :mamoru: ) There is a little “@” sign at the bottom of the screen when there’s a new email. Score! You get a buzz/noise when the message first gets delivered and a notification that stays until you open the email.
Definitely switching to Nokia Messaging from AT&T XPress Mail. Instant delivery, way nicer interface. If I can find a way to remap the messaging button I’ll be happy as a pig in shit.
Actually now that I look at it I’m not using Nokia messaging, lol. I’m just using the built in messaging program that came with my phone for SMS, MMS, Email, etc. I set it up just like Outlook or Thunderbird and it works perfectly.
I heard Apple and Nokia met to try to settle the case…Nokia is at $1 billion and Apple only offered $200 million
Could be really interesting if it makes it to trial.
