«OFFICIAL» NYSpeed Summer Meet: LETCHWORTH, Sun Sep 16th 2012

I was thinking chicane on the track before turn 5 to slow the speed. Entering turn 9 isn’t going to be fast at all since the straight is so short and bumpy.

Yeah the kidney would be a fallback, but if there is a way to make the track a little longer and use the section in front of the stands that would be great.

In for BBQ and probably lapping.

I was thinking brakes would be hottest at Turn 9, the chicane would move the car closer to the permanent wall. A straight lock-up would move the runoff further away from Turn 5 (vs. trying to stay near the infield and take a wide swing at the apex).

There are plenty of options to reduce speed in Turn 4 - 5.

In for lapping

I’d be in for running the course in one of my cars… What about bikes?

Any interest in pitching for for a “track car” that will pass tech for this? Something everyone could drive as long as they sign a waiver. lol

I’d be willing to throw in a couple hundred for something like that.

Ah, I see what you’re doing. But I don’t think you’re going to carry much speed around turn 8 and into turn 9, and the distance is so short & the track so rough that I can’t imagine anyone getting up to speed… especially when they’re staring right at a wall. Limiting this to 3 cars would almost certainly avoid contact. Maaayyyeee 4.

Remade things here, kinda the same way. Red are “cones”, Blue are foam walls, Yellow is run-off:

If there is a will there is a way. I can see a stock suspension beater, NFG WOT over bumps.

In either case we can take speed off of the exit of Turn 8, we can make the entrance into Turn 9 slow, or we can leave it as is and take some laps to see how much speed you can get up to.

Mike just reminded me of how bad the track really is in that turn 8-9 area. We’re going to need to walk it again before deciding on a layout.

Keep it oval and nascar it up?

Fuck this.
I’m bringing my stock miata wheels with rock hard 6 year old semi bald all seasons for lapping.

personally i vote for somewhere not a track, i feel like we had plenty of fun in the parks
i think its silly to try to jam all of these things into one day
josh I’m still thinking that secret location that we have been talking about for years needs to happen asap!

The later the better for me, my car may be ready by October at this point. lol

Edit: I did get my flywheel today. Yay!

^^ Nice. Respond to your PMs BTW

Why can’t we use the drag strip? I can pay 5$ on cruise night to do it, why not for the bbq?

The drifting was fun last year, but it was a real let down that we couldn’t use the strip. Everyone here could take advantage of it for grudge racing / general fucking around with SUV’s / powerstrokes. And lapping would be limited to what, 90mph?

Economies of scale.

The drag strip is actually a significant part of the oval as well. Lapping speed isn’t limited.

These guys are killing themselves then, IMO with the reduced traffic now from the new S&R cruise nights this place is just going to finally close down.

Also lapping that track is a dangerous idea, all it takes is one dumbass / bad brake line to smash up 3-4 other peoples cars.

Drag racing=safer

edit: how much do they want for a daily rental of the track anyways?

We’re not going to human-centipede the cars out there, lol.

I love how each event becomes an assessment of risk

If we cared about risk, we wouldn’t be jumping drift cars on bicycles now would we

i think track lapping is fun and all… but its just an oval

$200/hour. Six hour minimum and
up to 10 cars. Each additional car $60.
(All rentals are for daytime only)
