I have no idea what to call it.
But an offical list of people who can/do provide home services either proferssionally or not… or a list of companies who are recommended.
I often see I need a blah blah blah done, who’s good or who can do it?
Only reason I ask, is because I may be buying a home from my fiances parents (her grandparents used to live there, and then her uncle or such, changed family hands about 5 or 6 times)…
which is now vacant, and is in need of… lots of repair. (It was built pre-civil war era, to give you an idea of age)
Majority of which I can do myself, but some I can’t.
So it would be nice to have a thread of which I can refer to of services that I can rely on… rather than digging through a phone book and taking a shot on someone who may just flake out or half ass something.
eh, im available thru my dads company. We can do pretty much everything. Ive been working for over 5 years, and his company was started in like the 90s
But i’ll probably get banned for “advertising” by Josh
We do all our kitchen and bath remodels out of New York Kitchen and Bath, which is probably somewheres near you (Off broadway near Penora’s sort of…)
All our work is from referals of happy customers. Advertising is over-rated
As far as roofs, I Will recommend Jeff Heim. I’ve done work with them, and also Burbank Eletrical. I don’t know the exact name of his company, but his name is Ray Burbank. And Jeff Heim has a son who does landscaping as well.
Probably is near me… I <3 Penora’s…
It was one of the first local places I took the GF to when I met her, now she always begs me to go back and eat there all the time.
Think I’ve seen it before… but yea, it’s about 2 mins away from me… if that.
The house I’m buying is in Wolcottsville though!
Quite a hike :]
But with a bunch of land, and tons of space for snowmobiles/atvs and toys :]
and possibility to make a huge garage/workshop in the future :]
90% of the reason I’m interested in it… lol.
my MAIN concern… is that some douchefuck that owned the house a hundred years back or so, (this is the story I’ve been told) cut out a supporting piece of wood beneath the house in order to put in a cold air return line.
So there’s a section of the floor that is sagging down. (No basement)
I’m thinking it can get jacked back up and throw and Ibeam or such in there running the length of the house…
Or just tear the whole floor up and do it that way…
But I really don’t know until I get under there… Which may be a deal breaker if it can’t be fixed… (IE, the whole house is sagging there and has to get torn down)
I assume we’d need josh’s permission to set such a thing up, right?
Because technically it is advertising… in a way.
Definitely a good idea. I’ve got lots of repairs to do this spring. I have the “uneven floor” issue too- old house, crawlspace basement. I need a beam replaced as well. My home inspector caught everything, but it wasn’t a deal breaker, but I did get money off the price of the house for repairs. I used CMS Inspections, Chuck Schilling, recommended by JAM’s dad and I was really happy.
I Do electrical. I will give you the best prices on parts as well as I work for cheap as I am not a licensed master electrician that can bill $90/hr.
I work for Rexel electric as a sales rep and that grants me access to EVERYTHING electrical at below wholesale prices.
I have done work for others on this board as well as a bunch of random people, and I have never had any issues with faulty components or a hacked job. I am as clean and neat as can be as I take my time to make the work look really good. (even if it is inside of a box… I still like all wires to be organized)
lI should have checked here first, I just got done adding a 100amp sub panel and wired both my welders. That stuff adds up, especially once you go over 70amps. Over that point, breakers, wire plugs and recepticals are just stupid expensive.
I used Jeff Haag contracting. For work on my house in the city, he did great work, did my garage roof, resurfaced my hard wood floors and installed Energy star windows, and glass block windows. no complaints. would use him again. wasn’t the cheapest qoute I got but well worth it, super easy to work with.
I may actually have him back to do my electrical out to the garage.
he is licensed plumber/elec/general repair, he was one of the few that got approved by the people who gave me my 203k loan.
I can pretty much do it all. Kitchens, bathrooms, roofing, siding, windows. Since I started working as a Project Manager, I can no longer take on big jobs, but I am always doing side work. I have done work for a few members on here that are all happy with the finished product. I also work with someone that can do concrete driveways, and colored/stamped patios as well. I just don’t get in over my head.If I have any doubt that I can’t handle something, I just say no.
