FUUUUUUUUUUCK that. Also, I too need some footwear advice. I was looking at the Reebok ZigEnergy shoes…not sure though.
Go to fleet feet and learn a little bit about your feet and stride before grabbing sneakers.
I run in these right now

Haha me either. Full mile and a half without stopping and I will have a party.
You can I can race for last place
i fully endorse fleet feet on delaware
and i love the view at UB.
The view last night was off the charts. I am going to be sad when I have to start running outside again. Although Delaware park has a great view nothing beats the predominately college aged scenery.
This year I decided to give up the treadmill and do all my running outside. After two months of running in the winter I can honestly say the cold doesn’t bother me at all. I have been running 4x per week averaging around 20-25 miles per week. Recently I purchased a Garmin watch and it has been really beneficial for me tracking my pace and evaluating my progress. Currently I am using garminconnect.com and runningahead.com to log all of my runs. I am looking forward to doing my first marathon this year. If anyone needs motivation look up Anton Krupicka’s blog.
Fry, I’m not exactly a runner, but I tried the whole flat shoe/forefoot strike thing. I got BAD shin splints. Tried running through them, no dice, it just got worse and worse. I went back and tried to ween into it slowly, no luck. One night I just gave up and could barely walk home. 2 days later I got some Asics trail-running shoes (I like to hike so I went with them). Night and day difference. My calves are still a bit sore, but I think it’s going to improve big time. This seems to be a contributing factor to my distance difficulties too.
I grabbed some New Balance 479 All Terran Running at Dicks during a sale some time ago, like them a lot. Also had a little “Assembled in USA” tag which is kinda neat.
I run a couple times a week when i’m at the gym and feel up to it. I like to run short distances at a fast pace, usually 1.5 - 2 miles. Would like to run a 1.5 in under 10 minutes. As far as shoes i’ve tried a few different pairs but i absolutely love my Reebok Zigtechs. Super light and they give me zero pain anywhere, that’s all you can ask for.
Knocked off a 40 minute run on a treadmill tonight. I think I had it set at 5.5 mph so it only got me like 3.7 miles. Oh well, felt good.
For anyone interested in running, get yourself a copy of the book Born to Run. Really interesting and entertaining. It will definitely motivate, inspire, and educate you.

At the end of the day, whatever works for you is all that matters. Right now I’m doing OK in cheap flats. If I ever have problems I’ll probably head to fleet feet and see what a decent pair of running shoes can do for me.
Currently training for the Buffalo Marathon, which will be my first Full. Ran the 1/2 Marathon last year in 2:02:58, and just ran a 10K this past weekend in Rome. This was my first 10k race, and easily my best road race yet. Ran 10,210m in 51:12, skipping around the first Km like in the Turkey Trot. There were 6,000 runners, and it was a hell of a fun time. If Buffalo goes well, I might continue with another in the fall and Disney next year. I always run outdoors (unless the weather is garbage), so if someone wants to train with me, I typically do about 5-10 miles at an 8-9 minute pace.
Glad to see others on here have some goals as well, keep it up!
I just want to add for the record that picture of people running / just finished running are really boring.
yeah man, for sure. I envy that it works for you, though. I was actually really disappointed that I couldn’t get used to the forefoot thing. I have a bad knee, and I have had zero pain in it when running on my forefoot. Luckily since switching back to running on my heels, it hasn’t been bad (much less pain than the splints), but I’m not sure if that will last.
I do not agree one bit. I encourage everyone to share your accomplishments that you are proud of. Just for you below!
Hey Paulo you can look forward to making faces like this when you are finishing the full marathon.
Look how fun!
Pee in some guys yard?
Siqqq view
lol. Looks like you’re pooping in the first one.
i like to run.
it’s not out of the question!
those pictures go along with my theory that no one ever looks happy running. haha.
I run a 5k about one a week. I average around 25 min for a 5k. I love my iphone app for Nike Plus that records each of my runs. It provides some motivation to beat or match my last month’s total miles.
Shamrock run is coming up in March, its one of my favorite runs for the after party. The run itself can be brutal due to weather, and its a full 5 miles which is more than I ever run.
focusing on breathing > focusing on smiling, haha
