Sakura - Union http://sakurabuffalo.com/
Seabar - Main http://www.seabarsushi.com/
Kyoto - Maple http://tinyurl.com/yfgrrso
Papaya - Chip http://tinyurl.com/yj99m68
Kunis - Lexington http://www.kunisbuffalo.com/
O - Sheridan (closed now) http://www.orestaurantandlounge.com/

Fuji on Maple & North Forest continues to be my absolute favorite in the area. I have no idea how many times ive been there, the service has always been top notch, the food always delicious. They have a lunch special, 3 rolls for <$10.

Went to Wasabi on Hopkins for lunch today. I’ve been there ~5 times or so. Each time the food has been ok-good, but the service has been piss poor. The wait today from sitting down to eating was ~40-45 minutes, for 3 rolls.

Wasabi on Elmwood, typically quick service, but the quality is ok at best. its tiny and cramped as well. Meh.

Sakura on Union is pretty comparable to Fuji. Real quick service, lots of options, good quality. price is seemingly less than fuji. My second favorite.

Seabar on Main. Meh. Barely a sushi menu. Pieces were way too big to fit into my mouth, let alone the lady I was with, which made for some awkward eating. Have not gone back.

Kyoto on Maple - sub par. Service was ok at best, food was not. only been once, would prolly not give it a second shot.

Papaya on chip has the absolute worst sushi I’ve ever tasted. Will not ever go back for sushi.

Kunis on lexington. It’s good, but nothing special in terms of sushi.

O on sheridan. I haven’t been to this place in years, there was a thread it closed.

I’d be interested in learning of any places I missed. My stomping grounds are the city/north towns, but some decent places in the southtowns would let me take the 'rents out.

theres a new japanese & chinese place next to toro on elmwood now that serves sushi

I like wegman’s sushi, but I also only eat avacado rolls and inari.

looks like

I’ve had wegmans maybe 10 times, it’s alright, ive never gotten a bad piece of fish, but sometimes the rolls are just mushy and blah.

sakura used to be awesome but when it changed chefs it went way downhill.

wasabi on hopkins IMO is the best sushi in town, the wasabi in the southtowns is not as good.

seabar blows, totally agree on their menu, and the two times i ate there the rice was like eating rocks.

fuji is decent, i actually had a good experience at the newer one on mckinley, i never was a huge fan of the one on maple.

wegmans is what it is, its supermarket sushi, it should be cheaper than it is and it would be decent.

There are a few real hot waitresses at Fuji.

I also like it, mostly when its fresh, made right in front of me.

Yeah Wegman’s sushi is definitely the best for it’s level and price, I’d take it over the Bento Zushi in the mall or any packaged sushi anywhere (fresh or otherwise).

This thread is perfect

Anything in/near the southtowns? I’ll be heading there this weekend and the man and I have been craving sushi.

OP is as far south as it gets…

My friend did the wasabius.com site. He ate there and said it was ok but there is better. I have never had sushi, but I’d love to try it. Any recommendations on what to start with?

go in with someone who has had it, belly up to the bar and try some stuff.

Four words: all you can eat

ichiban on Sheridan and north bailey, where gorinos used to be. They have an all you can eat special. The rolls are decent too…

not really… it is just as expensive as most restaurants and the selection is weak and it is usually not very fresh. it’s definitely awesome for a supermarket though.

southtowns i’d definitely recommend going to the new fuji place on mckinley across from the verizon store… the wasabi on the corner of milestrip and mckinley as a second resort.

only downside was it was friggin freezing last time i was in fuji.

start in with some of the tempura rolls, they are cooked so you can ease yourself into the flavor… then work your way in with some of the more raw stuff. don’t know anyone that can’t handle at least a crunchy/spicy tuna roll.

Wasabi on hopkins has always been damn good food, never had any problems with service or wait times, but to do not at prime times.

Can you not buy sushi by the pound anywhere local?

all you can eat place is good if you don’t mind eating all frozen fish or if you are on a budget.

Fantastic. Thanks! My mom lives in OP and I never would have guessed there was anything around there.Sushi Saturday!

For those Rochester Folks

Fujiya In webster is the best in all of monroe county.

fuck california rollin. go to Fujiya

really glad you started this thread jeff, this is a major dilemma for me every time i come home. if you follow me on twitter you already know i go IN pretty much at least once a week on a lot lot lot of sushi. last time i was out in CT, i probably took down at least 30 pcs of sashimi, and 4 rolls myself. can’t live without it. if you ever find yourself coming through CT for whatever reason, we’re going to dinner and slaying some fish.

normally when i come home, i go to the wasabi near the mckinley mall and have some pretty good luck there. it’s not the best place on the planet but it’s been a consistent 8/10. fuji in OP was straight, service was nice as well…but it was a few months ago so I don’t remember exactly how great the food was, so i’d say i remember it as being above average.

i went to wasabi on elmwood today. girl wasn’t feelin her order very much said it wasn’t as good as it was normally when she went there. she had a philly roll and a eel/avocado, i ordered a scorpion roll (eel/shrimp tempura/avocado and some other shit i dont remember…) and an eel/avocado. it wasn’t as good as the southtowns location for sure, scorpion roll was pretty decent but the eel/avocado was eh. i feel like normally a great sushi spot will come thorough in quality when you order the simpler rolls and this certainly did not.

i dunno, i just eat a lot of shit.
