«OFFICIAL» Watercraft / Jet Ski / PWC Thread + Boats

Went again on Saturday. Got damn close to the bridge this time. Had to hold 2400 rpm to stay still there. Really cool spot. Lots of birds there that you don’t see anywhere else.

Quick ride after work yesterday, out of Wilson. All of the nasty storms went East of us. Turned out to be a gorgeous day

I just watched the 2014 long beach to Catalina and a bone stock 310 took 3rd lol the top 10 finishers were Kawasaki’s.

Anyone that knows that boat ride from Long-Beach to Catalina knows that’s one serious freaking haul on a ski. I wonder how jello those guys (girls?) were afterwards.

Any links on this stuff? I am so not up to speed on these races.

Looks like a nice wake

Told you. Let me know when you’re up for a day on that lake

If weather holds up im going to do my maiden voyage tomorrow. Then I can meet up with you guys.

Only used a 1/2 tank so far this year. Sunday was great, just sat in front of Woodlawn and then the city all day. Might skip out early on Friday and get some boat time in.

Woodlawn had a lot skis and boats on Sunday. I was just there at the beach for a bit:

Jesus that’s busy

I was out in about 30ft, didn’t feel like dicking with the anchor. It was just a low key day.

So, 1/4 mile or so out from the beach? I’m trying to remember how close we came in with the sailboat considering the keel depth. I know there is a sandbar (or something like it) if you approach the beach from to far north. (Nothing you’d need to worry about in a power boat.)

Correct, about 1/4 to a 1/2 mile. I just didn’t feel like checking the depth and proximity to boats around us every 3 seconds since we were just floating. The water does get quite shallow (4-5’) if you approach too close to the beach. I draft about 3-4’, but have taken out an outdrive before, so I try to keep it to 10’ minimum unless I’m keeping into an area that I’ll walk the boat in. Sunday is looking great, so I might be hitting up Grass Island with a cooler and the banana boat

Little update lol Picking up the Kawi on Saturday morning. It was fresh out the crate on Tuesday so they had to prep it and they close at 5 on Fridays. Will post pix as soon as i can. Cant wait to see what she’s got (after break in of course).

This looks kind of fast…

There are a bunch of people that have done rotax engine swaps into the Yamaha GRP hulls. Pull the engine out of an RXP, dump the supercharger and replace it with a turbo, and crank it up to 450+hp in the light GRP hull. It’s been done a number of times, and looks and performs awesome.

Yeah, those GPR hulls are fast. They stuff turbo’d SHO/SVHO motors in them too. They haul the mail.

Somedude appears in 3…2…1…

What would you guys recommend for an older ski? I still have the option of buying the 98’ waverunner xl1200 however I’m thinking that may not be what I want. I would prefer to have something nimble and lightweight that I can throw around and hit some wakes on. I’m not looking to buy anything new as I have a feeling I will get fairly bored after one season and I don’t care to tow anything behind a ski with plenty of opportunity to do that behind my fathers/friends/cousins boats.

I have heard the older XP sea doos are pretty fun but I really have no idea as far as the other brands go.

My recommendation is to spend as little money as possible. That way you can kick it around and not care. If you sink it, oh well!

Just a quick craigslist search.

Rule of thumb: Do not buy a Polaris ski, they are crap. That’s it. Get a cheap Seadoo, Yamaha, Kawsaki that runs and beat the crap out of it.

I have an 04 aquatrax, a 2000 polaris 1200 slx, and a 1997 race team polaris pro 785.

The polaris’ have had problems here and there, but they are SOOOOOOO much fun to ride. If you have basic mechanical ability, these things are super simple to work on. Any 2 stroke you buy will have problems, but I wouldn’t steer specifically away from polaris’s, however.
