Well most people like my father can’t handle big waves he just wants to cruise so this is a bummer for him.
The City of Buffalo sure loves it’s ridiculously low speed limits as knee jerk reactions.
As the outer harbor get busier it makes sense to have some speed limit there. Something like Irondequoit Bay where it’s a 25mph limit would make a lot more sense though. Have it 25mph from the outer breakwall to the harbor then no wake zone inside the harbor area.
Did they take down your info? If not, just keep doing what you’re doing and watch out for the dumb kayakers & patrol boat. I’d think the coast guard has bigger things to worry about than becoming traffic cops.
The Buffalo Coast Guard really doesn’t have anything better to worry about than being traffic cops. That’s why they spend the majority of their time doing random safety equipment checks. Making it worse is Buffalo isn’t a desirable station so we get the noobies in training. One night several years ago we got boarded for a safety check and it took the kid 5 tries just to properly pull along side our boat. I know post 9/11 they’re tasked with homeland security tasks but with 10+ police agencies on our waterways at any given time the Buffalo waterways are about the last place a terrorist is going to try and sneak in.
I dunno man, have you ever just listened in on channel 16? If you want to kill the mood while boating just put that on as background music. Especially on a nice day.
Did not take any info just a warning.
Theres no way they can keep every boat under 10mph there. Getting back to and from the small boat harbor from canalside and anywhere else in the area will take forever.
Im sticking with dropping the hammer until they catch me.
If they catch you…
same here I keep blasting through there, no issues yet.
Soon to be for sale. 1996 Four Winns 245 Sundowner. Fresh wetsanding, buffing, wax, lower end paint, refinished outdrive, and soon to have a new longblock. Motor is a Volvo/Penta 5.8EFI (351W). Manifolds and risers are brand new. Floor and carpet are just over a year old. Sound system is ridiculous. I’ll have more information in a real FS post soon.
Comes with trailer.
Price will be about $14k.
Mounted the Corbeaus in last week. Installed on the original bolster seat posts, but cut down 10 inches.
Fuck me sideways that’s radical.
Coast guard boarded me as I was coming back from a rip. Went through the checklist and got the all good. I was shooting the shit with them and asked about this rumor of 10 mph. They said they were “reminding” people of it the rest of the season, but will be ticketing people for it next year. Plenty of boats and jetskis were nearby going well over this 10 mph “limit” and they didn’t do anything. Next year will be the tough year, I think the rest of the season boats should be okay. Maybe by next season enough boaters will bitch and it will be dropped or bumped up to 70mph and under.
Sure enough right after, Erie Basin sent this out.
Figured the signs would be coming soon and once those were out they’d start ticketing. I only go into Buffalo Harbor a few times a year and it will be even less now. Sucks for regular users of Erie Basin or Buffalo Small Boat Harbor. Going to be a boring cruise going 10mph all the way from the marina to the breakwall every time you go out. Gotta protect the idiots in kayaks and pedal boats though.
first off the seats look KILLER. I love your boat  second you look like a badass with them boarding hah let’s get out soon
Hot
Going to be a nice day out there today.
Why is there a coast guard in your engine bay??? @Scott
Sea Doo Saga continued…
Ok…so I think I am a pretty reasonable guy, and I think most people on here that know me would agree…but let me run this by you all…
After having running/bucking issues all last season, I finally took my machine to the “shop” (which will remain nameless for now) late in the year. They diagnosed it as needing a carb. adjustment, and sent me on my way, $150 later. I was happy, as I thought my machine will now be all good to go…
Never got the machine out again until this year, and when I did, it ran great the first time out (was out for about an hour and a half). The next time out, 20 minutes in, exact same problem from last year. So I took it back to the shop this past week. They investigated it again and concluded I had a fouled spark plug, so they replaced both and said I was all set, $200 total this time. I was very suspect at that diagnosis, as the plugs had about 6 hours on them (never-mind that if the plug/s were indeed fouled, it would never run right, as opposed to sometimes running right, sometimes not)…plus, I guess my first service trip that ended with a $150 carb. adjustment was really never the issue…but either way, I paid my bill and took it to the water…
Again, 20 minutes in, exact same problem…
So I dropped it back at the shop last night, frustrated and dejected. Spoke to them this morning, and after they looked at it again, they think they found the real problem: deteriorated fuel lines within the tank, missing screens, likely sending particles/debris into the carb., causing the break-up in power, etc. So now the tank needs to come out, be fully flushed, lines replaced, and a carb. rebuild…estimate of $515…
So now I have spent $350 at this shop in 2 separate trips, with 2 different diagnoses, and no real warranty or refund offered on anything…but rather an offer to fix it for another $515…they did offer me a credit of a 1/2 hour labor on the new job as they said they take some responsibility for not noticing the real problem sooner…I told them I will need to think about all this, and took the machine home today…
Now, am I out of line in thinking this is all a little absurd? I do not know how long it took them to figure out the real issue all along today, but all I know is I am $350 out of pocket for an issue that is still not resolved…I would think I should have a credit in the form of around $350 towards the new repair, because so far, nothing has been fixed…
Thoughts? Pretty frustrated here…
@91MR2 … You paid someone $200 to change two spark plugs???
If you re-read the whole post, you will see why…they charge per the hour…water testing is part of the charge…they changed the plugs after the time invested…I owed them for 2 hours labor and diagnosis, not so much paid them to change spark plugs…that was their determination…
