Oh look..another Honda

So here’s what I’ve been playing around with. It’s a 1988 Honda CRX and will be assisted with some boost :slight_smile: I know everyone is going b-series this year, I’m being different and going with a D16y8, basically because they are cheap…and I’m poor lol. I just recently put the engine together with vitara pistons and new bearings. I’m waiting for a engine gasket set that i ordered so i can finish it up and put the head on. Hopefully within two weeks the engine and transmission will be in the car and i can start mocking up the charge piping. Well here are some pics with the FMIC that was mounted today, the bumper needs some finessing (spelling?) but it’s solid. I’ll update later with a mod list and some pics of everything.

Are you actually going to take it to the track at all? Or just play around?

most definitley i’m taking it to the track. right now my goal is to get it running, broken in and tuned properly. I’m tuning it myself so it’s basically going to be my guinea pig lol

The old del sol with a d16 was putting down 220 with a shitty turbo. So it should be fast enough to be very fun.

yeah the del sol was pretty quick when i get a ride in it last summer. i’m shooting for 300whp, we’ll see. I don’t know how much the 4 stock needle dicks aka connecting rods can handle lol.

did you get the crank balanced when you went with the vitaras? did you change the rods?

there is a machine shop at my work and i had them take care of everything.

why do people boost d16’s when they could get a b18b for just as cheap

because i basically got the engine for free. I’ve spent 300 dollars for the engine, pistons, bearings, and gasket kit. I had all the machine work for free, so 300 bucks and a FRESH engine, can’t go wrong.

I didn’t get it for free, but i paid basically nothing for it, and why does it suck that it’s a d16? Plenty of people put down good numbers on them, i should be able to hang with some of the people running a b-series. It’s going to be a fun street car, cheap, easy to fix, pretty quick. That sounds good to me. If it hits 300 wheel…hell even 250 wheel, it’ll move. 250-300whp in a car that weighs around 1800lbs, that gets a :tup: from me.

Because, transmission axels, ecu and mounts all cost alot more.

not really. the honda market is so swamped right now everything is fucking cheap.

i just went with the d because i got a smokin deal on it and the parts.

is the block in the car yet?

no it’s not. I decided to wait until the engine is 100% complete and I want to bolt the transmission up as well. I have to find a rear mount anyway, I have to head up to M&M one of these days.

Im pretty sure the sohc vtec head flows better then a ls head so i dont see why not to build it when you get it all cheap.

I MIGHT have a rear mount for that dude. Not sure what the mount is for though. Cant remember what motor it came off of.

hmm…well i need the bracket that bolts on to the block and a mount for an EF.
