OMG I have Fios TV v.review

entirely possible, verizons marketing of FIOS tv has been completely whacked

I want FIOS

X…

The DVR is :tif:

I haven’t tried it in a while, but I don’t record in HD because playback was all choppy like it was overheating or low on bandwidth or something.

Sometimes a handful (or a ton) of channels play for 2 seconds then say “Channel Not Available” and I have to unplug the DVR for 30 seconds.

It’s not too frequent but enough to piss me off since I’ve never had a DVR or any of these nuances before.

But hey at least the picture’s sharp and there’s tons of options for melting your brain.

damn i never have that issue, but mine is going back for a Tivo unit.
I cant stand the channel guide and the tivo is 1010101010101011010x better

hmm, i only dvr in hd from the unit that cablevision provides.
what’s your final input…should i switch?

kevin answer this ^^

edit: Fry, you might have a bad unit… i read a ton of forum discussions on these motorola DVR’s that verizon is using where they are very hit and miss. freezing up was one of the major problems and if you call and say it is doing it they will replace it with a new one (that hopefully works). Mine knock on wood has been solid.

 I liked it a lot going from 15 local stations and never having had DVR in my life. The DVR issues isn’t a big deal to me, but I don’t watch a lot of TV. I may just have a bad unit or something, so I wouldn’t let that stop you.

I did it because of 300+ channels, a ton of which are HD, and 20/5 internet, and free DVR for a year, for $79.99/mo. It’s cheap.

^
chino…really? you can’t do on demand if you use a tivo dvr? weird.
but i assume you can if you use the verizon dvr?

Cool. It doesn’t bother me but if the wife keeps bitching I’ll get it replaced.

The wife I mean.

link to promo for free year dvr?

It’s on the website. It was when I switched a month or two ago anyway. Free digital adapters for all my non-HD TV’s too. That promo is definitely over though.

i don’t know for certain, that is what i read… waiting for the guy with tivo to verify though. if it does have on demand i will probably order a tivo.

good call (on the wife)

no on demand, i can honestly say i never use it, too much other stuff to watch i guess.

no you will loose all verizon branded shit, like widgets, on demand, shit like that.

You also need to order a cable card from verizon.

that sucks… on demand with the full movie package is pretty clutch. i was seconds away from ordering one until i found that out :frowning:

however my on demand lately has consisted of bluray rip downloads.

i just want more disc space on the dvr… my shit is full from like 10 hours of HD content, which is pitiful.

i hear ya, but there is so much you can do with a tivo, fully supported Esata drives, open source for modding, etc… Verizon doesn’t even have the usb ports turned on for extra storage which really pissed me off, why put it there if it isn’t even turned on

Plus its cheaper to subscribe to that than the 15.99 for the HD STB.

the interchangable 1TB sata drive is enough for me… just losing the on demand really sucks, i use that heavily. fawk why is there never a perfect option !

chino,
so stupid question then…what physically prevents on demand if you have tivo? or was it because you wanted to delete the VZ settop box entirely in favor of tivo?

yea, you get rid of the verizon STB and just have a verizon card in the tivo… i don’t know if you could have both, but that would certainly be a waste of cash

ok, now i get it…so that’s the CableCard option. Yes, I don’t think that’s a VZ limitation, I think that’s any service provider you would have that issue.
