Placed my order, should have it next week.
Ive been nothing but happy with my Fios internet and cable at the the apartment, top notch
anyone know the model of router they provide and if it supports WDS?
I want to see about setting up a repeater with my existing wireless router.
Just had internet and TV installed.

holy shit this is awesome. i got it installed two days ago and i think it’s the best shit ever. the internet thing doesn’t feel any different. i’m sure it’s faster, but i suck at computers.
the DVR is awesome. their HD is fantastic. what a phenomenal tv service. my only complaint is it needs a bigger HDD in the DVR.
actually their DVR blows, so horrible compared to even directv’s. I switched to a Tivo unit and I am never looking back.
no more missed recordings, no more not being able to use the usb ports, no more clunky guide, no more crappy menu system.
Go Tivo you will never go back to verizons
well…i guess i only have two days of use on it, but so far it’s been no problem. it’s world’s better than the TWC DVR. How much space is available on the Tivo DVR? specifically, for HD recording? isn’t there an XL model or something?
Thats the thing about the tivo i like most, the Esata and usb ports are actually OPENED and allow you to add a huge HDD and Tivo supports it!!!. The original tivo is the same as verizon 20HD and whatever SD hours. So there is no need to buy the XL model, unless you want a cool led readout.
you’re talking over my head with your esata HDD stuff. are you saying i could plug in my 640GB external HDD through USB on that and save stuff? because that would be awesome.
well yes and no, you can buy the tivo approved Western Digital My DVR Expander and get another 70+ hours of HD, thats just plug and play, and available for around 140 at amazon, or you can do some hacks and pretty much get up to 2 TB of space if needed.
what does a tivo unit and monthly cost run you?
tivo was 199.99 on sale from tivo, normally 299.00 and the monthy cost for me was 9.99 since i was a returning customer. cable card from verizon is 3.99, so this route is def cheaper than renting a verizon dvr.
so you just don’t get to do movies on demand from verizon and the channel guide I heard? And what about the hardware, is it multi-room DVR like the one I have now?
What are you asking?
I have VOD, 1000s of titles.
:gotme:
Again, huh?
The Multiroom DVR “media server” pushes DVR content to any other STB in the house.
You still need an STB at every TV location where you want Guide & widgets et al. Else you can run the digital adaptor and have just the channels.
he is asking about the TIVO DVR
Ok, Verizon’s website pricing is confusing the shit out of me.
At the moment in my area (North Buffalo) they are only offering the phone and FIOS internet service - no HDTV yet. I’m looking at the $79.99 ‘Verizon FIOS Double Freedom’ plan, which is phone service plus FIOS 20 down/5 up. They mention that the ‘savings’ with this plan is $22.99.
I chatted online with two customer service reps and both gave me a canned response when I asked them if the price was going to be more than $79.99 after the first year. The way I read it i’m saving $22.99 for the first introductory year and then it’s 79.99 + 22.99 = 102.98 for the same service. Am I right, in which case the promotional price of $79.99 will go up to >$100/mo after the first year, or is the price they are quoting, $79.99/mo, the current regular price?
greenbull is right…you missed my point.
We were discussing the merits of switching to a TIVO DVR and tossing the Verizon setups. But I have a multi-room DVR with Verizon now…
…basically I know you lose the VOD and guide…but what about the multi-room capability?
how does this multi-room thing work? does the HD DVR have that capability?
It does record in HD, but it’s not the same as the plane jane HD DVR.
MultiRoom setups have 1 master dvr…then you just have standard STBs around the house. Anything recorded on the Master DVR can be played back on the other STBs around the house.
doh. my bad.
