Ok, for those that have just FIOS Internet and phone service - what are you paying a month with all included taxes and fees?
Bump since I’m making the call today.
Kenmore has it now? When is North Buffalo getting it??? Grrr…
North Buffalo has it now. My installation date is Friday. I live near Delaware and Hertel.
They sent a letter to my house saying its coming. I called and they gave me an unofficial launch date of March 29
However they said they aren’t sure if FiosTV will be available. I’m waiting for tv and internet.
Call 1-866-709-4742 and inquire
WAT? Last time I called they told me I was SOL. What number did you call?
I had initially checked way back in September on Verizon’s website but it was still ‘coming soon’. I entered my email/phone number a couple of months ago for the automatic nitification to let me know when FIOS was available in my area, and they emailed and called a month or so ago to give me the heads-up. Additionally, I got a package in the mail with a brochure just this Monday. I was a day or so away from ordering it online when a Verizon sales rep (who was going door to door) came to the house last week with a sales pitch for FIOS. I asked him a bunch of questions and a half hour later I was scheduled for install this Friday the 13th. I’m getting phone service and 20Mbps up/5Mbps down net access for $79.99 + taxes with a one year agreement, no install or activation fees. They are also offering three months free on the internet portion, so that’s ~$160 or so of savings over the first three months.
Basically, I didn’t have to do a thing - they came to me and did all the work.
OK, got it installed yesterday. Install guy used coax cable to connect the panel in the basement to the router/modem. I hop onto the 'net to find any tips/tricks/tweaks for it and notice that some people have cat5e running to their router, which is not the Verizon router.
Anyone here have their coax line swapped out for cat5e so they can use a different router? I did read up on using the Verizon router as a bridge to another router but i’d rather not do it that way.
you have to request cat5.
but if you want to use another router you can still do it with coax. pass thru the vz one, convert it to a bridge and then use your own router.
I guess i’m gonna have to do that. No matter what I do I can’t get port forwarding to work so I can get access to my NAS from outside the network. I’ve followed every tutorial out there. I had it working just fine with DSL and my 6 year old D-Link DI-624 router, but this stupid Actiontec MI-424WR router sucks major balls.
Anyone have port forwarding working with the Verizon router?
I believe I have it setup properly for Xbox 360 Live and RDP access. 360 works, never actually tested the RDP though.
Yes. The gui is a little goofy though, and the way it works is pretty much counter-intuitive.
If you haven’t figured it out yet, shoot me a PM or hit me on AIM:MrVweegit and I’ll try to give you a hand.
Hey James, you know who this is right? Think - who do you know with a slow-ass red Mustang 'vert?
:roflpicard: Haha, sup man. I’ll hit you up.
Verizon seems to be a bit retarded. Last summer they put me on a list to let me know when Fios internet was availabe in Kenmore. They said sometime in the fall. Right before Xmas it still wasn’t available when I called to check on it.
So as far as I know, I’m still on that list right? Well, I go to the car show and talk to the Verizon dude and he looks up my address and says, yep its available now.
WTF happened to the list I was on??? So I set up to get installed this coming tuesday. (this was on last monday) Another Verizon rep calls me on Thursday and tries to set me up again. WTF is wrong with that company?!?!? /rant
I hope the service isn’t like the customer relations have been so far.
verizon is so effin backwards. Every time I call cs or billing, this is what happens
cs: what’s your telephone #?
me: i don’t have one
cs: do you have vz service?
me: yes
cs: but you don’t have a phone number?
me: no. can i give you an account number instead??
cs: that won’t help. I need a verizon phone number. (begins brain aneurysm)
me: i have fios tv and internet…can I give you an account number?
cs: but, but…you don’t have vz phone service?? (panic attack now at full force)
me: no. can I please speak to a tech about my MRDVR?
cs: we have no way of looking up your account. are you sure you don’t have a phone number with us? how about a mobile phone?
cable and 'net quality is great…but other areas clearly are still not ready for primetime.
and for what it’s worth, being able to program your dvr from the web is tres cool.
Their customer relations have been retarded for the last 7 years I’ve been using their company. Don’t let that be an indicator of the service, though. I have no problems with their services. Just their people, on the rare occasion I have to deal with them - and that, not often.
However, I do loathe their choice of router. The MI424WR has had nothing but problems for most people. Port forwarding, DHCP issues, the list goes on - for most, not a problem. For me, I’m ready to throw it out the window.
the router sucks for sure. but it serves its purpose.
the multi room DVR on the other hand, i’d like to rape it’s mother with a piece of driftwood.
eh, ive had to talk to CS 2x in over a year. wasn’t toooo bad, and that rate is a fuck of alot better then any other provider i’ve used in the last 10 yrs.
i’ve had problems with the mrdvr…trying to watch on another set and it says it can’t find the hub.
so i call cs and the guy says I need to put a pin to my router to reset it because…his words “believe it or not, the programming/guide/dvr is sent WIRELESSLY from the router”, that and he will issue a reset to my cable boxes.
wirelessly? really. so i told him I’d do that reset later…much later. Because I wouldn’t trust that shmo with a stapler let alone my router. I let him send the bullet to the dvr to reboot it…we’ll see if that fixes it.
similar problems here. it has issues pushing content to other STBs.
“cant locate hub”
“too many playback at once” although nothing else is active / in-use
and the ‘while skipping fwd lets restart this show with no error message’
it is infrequent, but mildly annoying.
