GAINESVILLE — The pastor of a Gainesville church said late this afternoon that he is canceling plans to burn copies of the Quran on Saturday.
In return, Dove World Outreach Center Pastor Terry Jones said, he’s been assured that the controversial Islamic center planned near Ground Zero in New York City will be moved elsewhere.
But no such agreement exists, said Imam Muhammad Musri, president of the Islamic Society of Central Florida, who has met with Jones repeatedly in the past couple of days seeking to defuse the situation.
All that exists, Musri said, is an agreement for Jones to meet with New York Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, leader of the proposed mosque near Ground Zero.
Jones said he had received assurances Musri that the New York project would be moved.
But Musri said: “What I said was that if it were up to me, it would be moved tomorrow.”

I mean, come on! How come any time someone tries to build a new church there’s a huge protest and it never happens, but any time some Muuuuslim wants to build a Mosque we fund it with tax dollars and volunteers help build it?
