My prelude insurance was $900 for 6 months full conerage
put my 92 civic as my primary vehicle and the prelude as my “recreational” vehicle
prelude insurance dropped to $425 for 6 months still with full coverage
I take the prelude off the road from dec1 to april1. Those four months its in “withdrawn from use” and is $35 a month to insure (cannot be driven, covers theft, fire, vandalism etc.)
my $500 civic gets ~37mpg and when someone slides into me or the salt truck chips the side of my car or its too cold and i cant wash it, i dont care. I wouldnt even enjoy driving my nice car during the winter just thinking of all the salt thats rotting it away.
I look forward to the salt rotting my car away so that I have an incentive to buy a new one. haha
The Cobalt should be done sometime next week, assuming there are no delays (which there will be, there always is). Then it’s back in my posession for a few days and AWAY SHE GOES
Somewhat sad, considering I did have some great times/memories with it.
As for driving a RWD car in the snow… it’s not as big of a deal as one may think. 400hp or not, that all depends on the driver. Also the 3800lb curb weight will keep it planted decently along with the snows I will be buying for it.
My dad’s '03 BMW 540i 6spd is horrible in the snow with 4 brand new Blizzaks. I’m pretty sure the 540i is somewhere around 3500lbs or so as well and has a 360hp/360tq(or somewhere close to that) V8.
I can only imagine that a big body GTO is horrendous in the snow.
I think you could make a smarter decision with your money. dont buy the goat
its orange, you may like it but chances are when you go to sell it the majority of your perspective buyers wont
your 2007 $24k chevy is now worth $10k in 2009. This car will do the same except this time you’ll be paying for it, not your grandparents.
just bc you have snow tires on a RWD car doesnt mean its going to be glued to the ground
weight does help, but its all up front. that 6.0L motor is heavy. how much of that 3800lbs is over the back wheels? its like a lowered 350hp 2wd truck in the winter.
Have you even looked at other cars? besides the new sti we drove. You just drove through denoyer and said oh thats a nice car i want it
just bc the cobalt was wrecked doesnt mean you have to sell it right away. why not wait till spring? The dealer wont give you your car back unless its 100% fixed. If anything goes wrong its their dime to fix it. Quick decisions like this often end up ftl
the whole nice car/winter beater thing is nice, for those who can pull it off. you wont have room in your driveway because this car will take up your whole driveway, so youll be driving it year round and over the course of a few years it shows vs. a garage car
EPA says 25mpg hwy but in reality your going to find that 17-19 mpg around town is more like it. Premium remember. Between work/school i drive about 250 miles a week, similar to you so thats a sold $50+ a week in gas
Maybe not these specific cars but ones similar to them. Now go ahead and make some smart ass remark or be all thick headed but im just tryn to help… you should consider something else.
