The Critical Mass bike rides started in San Francisco in 1992 and began in New York two years later. The New York rides, on the last Friday of every month, became large enough that police decided to crack down on them, leading to the arrests of more than 260 cyclists during a ride days before the GOP convention in August 2004 on charges of disorderly conduct and traffic offenses.
Dozens more cyclists have been arrested at subsequent rallies. In 2007, a federal judge ruled that the city could continue to regulate the rides despite a claim from riders arguing the rules infringe on their constitutional rights to free speech and to travel.
So the guy was breaking the law. Had the dumb cop at least yelled for the guy to stop he’d probably still have his job.

Kind of like running with the bulls. Yeah, there are a lot more people than bulls, but eventually it’s going to suck for one of those people. 
did u watch the video? the guy comes into frame… and the cop lockes eyes with him and nails him with a full on body check off his bike… he didnt even have a chance to do anything to the officer, and even tries to steer away from teh cop

Nice hit!. From what I see. The kid seems to continue pedaling long after the cop starts the intercept manuver, and turns into him at the last minute. Yup thats assault lol. Kind of a dick move, but Im sure there is more to it than the guy just wanting to body check some D-bag. Maybe he detected abnormal traces of hash on the kid?
Critical Mass does ride in Buffalo. They do sometimes block traffic on Elmwood. IIRC a guy was arrested (adjunct at Canisius) during one event a couple years back.

Every one of you is missing something important in the video!Watch right after the hit/slam a woman and a man pull right up. One of the cops quickly places the rider’s bike at the curb where the woman “biker” efficiently grabs it and takes off with it.

Seemed like he was set on THAT biker, maybe they did something previous and they matched the description, who knows, people get butt-hurt too easily and look for anything to get the media involved.
Two cops are standing in the street, anywhere from 20-30 bikes pass.
Cops decide to move to sidewalk, as they are doing so a bike come along. Biker sees cop, mashes brakes and begins to swerve a bit, but is def. going to miss the cop.
Cop sees the bike and instead of stopping or taking a step back he takes one, maybe two, good powersteps and plows the biker upwards with both forearms and a lot of power.
Pretty much a dick move that he didnt think he would get caught for. The AP says the cops had his badge and gun taken and is on desk duty pending investigation.
I qouted someone from the comments on the article, making the point that people are thinking the biker stole the bike, hence why a woman grabs it and takes off after it’s pulled to the side.
i wonder if the guy did something earlier? the radio IS faster then the bicycle …
standing in the middle of the street like that is sort of an odd positio to take, unless your watching for a specific rider. the cop seams to look right at the guy before the guys even in frame, and then starts to intercept him
maybe he accidentally hit another cop earlier and this is how they took him into custody?
looks bad on tape, but seams to planned to be random
now if the cop was visably pissed about dropping his doughnut and lashed out at the nearest rider, then i would say hes a dirty cop
