do you guys think the car scene in ontario is going up or down since people seem to have less disposable income due to insurance and gas prices these days apposed to BC and Alberta who have oil money?

Enthusiasts have more disposable income then they did a couple years ago. IE all the people with decently built cars had a practically stock ride a couple years ago. They have 3 years build time behind it, plus they are either getting paid well during the summer or are out in the workforce now making money that inevitably makes it back into the cars.
It has less to do with ins and gas costs and more with timing…
All these higher prices are doing, are keeping out younger people entering the scene. Who generally build cheap and tasteless cars.
So in essence the higher auxilary costs are helping to improve car quality, while the scene continues to grow.
I think that we in Ontario have more ricers per capita than any other province - and THAT is the real problem.
Some gino will have 500 bucks and instead of getting an exhaust, suspension work, brakes, etc… he will go out and spend it on glow gauges and neon lights.

myself coming from vancouver, i can definetely notice the difference.
like niterider said, i do think you guys have more rice per capita BUT when you guys do go full out, you guys REALLY do go full out.
i think the west coast just has more jdm junkies because we do have a lot of fobs and generally closer to japan so shipping for parts is a bit cheaper. (vancouver = skyline heaven of north america)
but i have to say, ontario car tuning culture has been growing (i’ve been here for just under 2 years) it’s just that the rice scene is growing at the same rate.
for some odd reason though, pacific northwest (vancouver + seattle) has a strong volkswagen scene. i have yet to come across tastefully done up vw’s in ontario.
i think thats just because they are insecure and need to be noticed so they buy the things that will get them there.
case in point… all the fuking dudebros in woodbridge with cars that look like they could be in a barnum and bailey circus act…
and the clowns behind the wheel who all think they are andretti.

thats why i can get away with telling them that they arent allowed to buy something… but then sell them something infinatly better for a fraction more money.

I don’t know if its just me, and if its just Markham, but I have noticed alot less rice around here, dont get me wrong, there still is rice but the majority of modified cars around here are on more of a higher level then before. I cant go a day without seeing 10 white STI’s with the same kit and probably some good power, S2000s are also a dime a dozen. Now were starting to see an abundance in M3’s, Elise’s, Gallardo’s, S4’s and an especially large population of Porsche’s. (which I have already seen a disgustingly riced out Boxster) Hopefully that doesn’t carry on to 911’s…
But yeah. I think the rice boys are getting the hint when they drive through Tims and get laughed at by some dude in an 800 horse Z06 with a Rotweiler doddling around…

there have always been ricers, the phrase just didnt exist for them until recently.
All the Americans with their bumperstickers and ornaments and nick nacked up pickup trucks are ricers too.
There will always be tasteless people, but all their doing is making me and others with good taste look even better.
