OYAP Meeting

Get a trade, you may be stuck in an office all day if you get an engineering job.
But if you do take engineering, a three year College course will get you pretty far, but it will not get you certified like a five year University course will.

yeah I’m going into the automotive trade so it’s all good. I can’t handle a desk job.

Im in OYAP right now, if your in the catholic board you go to a school called jean vanyer and centenial. Im on my first year right now and i just finished my school half and now im working on Kipling. Its really great you learn alot fast and if you wana be an aprentice take OYAP you get it a year ahead of time and alot of knowledge.

^^^when you take OYAP do you still get certified like in college or university

yeah man you do work place and college after, essentially fully payed for, my friends doing it at Dodge right now, says its amazing.

Depends on what you consider an engineer, I have a friend that’s a CNC programmer that thinks he’s one. I’d beg to differ.
No credible company will let you do engineering without a minimum of a bachelors from an accredited university. And for good reason. I’ve seen the courses and texts for a college “engineering” program, it merely teaches you to apply concepts you don’t actually understand. The most important part of being an engineer is reasoning things out, and being able to answer when someone asks “why?”. You can’t get there without a proper education.
You are right about the whole being stuck in an office part though, but that depends on the person, I like working in an office. I even want to do my MBA in a couple of years so I can go into management. There’s not much money to be had by staying on the technical side of things for the rest of your life.

Solarion is right. I’m in school at waterloo right now, and the one thing you notice is how many people are being admitted to universities. Having a bachelors wont be enough to succeed in the modern economy. Specialization and post-grad education is becoming key to securing a solid mid-high 5 figure job.

I plan on pushing to finish my degree early so i can save up to get my MBA as well.

yea now this sounds more realistic
