Switched from power steering to a manual rack on the Miata, and I’m glad I did. The ratio is a bit slower, but I got used to it quickly. The upsides are the feel (you can really tell exactly what the front tires are doing) and decreased complexity under the hood (if I want to swap front swar bars now, it’s a 15 minute job), as well as less weight. The downside is really only if you are maneuvering to get into or out of a parking space (and backing up a trailer is a real workout).
