Paid sick day legislation

I don’t know. I work for a small-ish company and have the flue. Our company has no limit to sick time, but if deemed that it’s being abused the employee will get a warning, disciplinary action then potentially the boot. We actually have a reward program for not using sick time that ends up in an end of the year bonus.

I got the flue from a co-worker who didn’t want to be frowned upon for taking more than two sick days. He came back to work while sick and shared it with me, and at least one other. I feel like I should go to work sick because I know my boss thinks I should be there. My fellow employees on the other hand appreciate me staying away, as would I. Since I have a desk job it hasn’t dramatically reduced my productivity to log in from home and work here.

I’m usually not sick, but this almost whole week of being home has put some perspective on it for me. I’m stir crazy and want to go back. I’m actually sick of being home but it’s not worth it to get a few others sick. If I worked at a job that didn’t have sick leave, screw everyone else!

I think this bill has some merit, but there should be a limit to the number of days, times per year and if health insurance is provided I think asking to the employee to bring in a Dr. slip is reasonable too.

This right here.

Camels are terrorist sympathizers anyways, who’s side are you on?

BTW, this seems to be a legitimate precaution to prevent the spread of H1N1, not the advance of socialism, because in section 9 it says:

SEC. 9. SUNSET.

This Act, and the requirements under this Act, shall expire 2 years after the effective date of this Act.

I can’t see how this would bring a business down… Maybe they can just raise the required number of employee’s to get everyones panties out of a bunch?

I work for a corporate bank, when I started in 2006ish it was the heyday. The bank was moving tons of corporate accountants from NYC to Buffalo to work for less money. The CEO’s would come in and bark about how we were “rockstars”, and how Buffalo was so “cost effective” to have people working. They responded by putting up a new building 3x the size of the old building, and attaching the two together.

When shit started to hit the fan, these same corporate accountants were told to train Indians to do their job. They would call it “Migration”. Six months later, India took over most of the Buffalo back office accounting operation. The Buffalo accountants who were so cheap to pay here, obviously were not cheap enough.

In the middle of the full blown recession, tons of full time jobs are being cut, and we are bringing in absolute Idiots off the street from the Appleone and Addeco employment agencies.

These temps get zero paid time off, zero insurance, zero benefits, and can be fired at the drop of a hat. If they look at the supervisor the wrong way, the supervisor just calls the agency, and they are notified that their term of service is over.

Its fucking depressing out there now.

The only good thing about my particular job is that we are federal contractors, so the government is going to pay us no matter what. We have a ten year contract, and hours or wages can not be cut.

Someone’s at Shittybank…err i mean Citi…Although to be fair they did lose many billions since they were in EVERY market that went south. (subprime, MBS, credit default swaps, derivatives, etc. etc. etc.)

^^“Feel good” liberal legislation results in the same thing - unintended consequences.

This sick day thing is just another way to take from one and give to another.
It is thinly veiled.
If it was really about being fair they could force companies to let them make up the time.
That is brilliant so don’t expect congress to think of it.
Like I said before a company only has so much money to go around.

The government does not know the best way to run businesses. Like everything else they molest, this will result in more negatives than positives even though they will never admit it.

I keep hearing about how these poor companies and how they can’t afford this legislation. But its really hard to believe these companies are going to be in trouble when you see the lavish lifestyles these business owners live. And I’m sure Blue Eyed Devil lives pretty “comfortably” as well. So I went looking for some information on income inequality and my thoughts were correct.

It’s hard for me to believe that with the business owners getting such a large percentage of the growth in this country that they can’t afford to throw a little back at their employees.

^So because I make more(you assuming) that automatically means other people should have my money? Wow.
If my employees want to risk their life savings in the company too, I will reward them accordingly but, that risk obviously means nothing to you.(?)

No, but it means you should stop crying poor from your x hundred thousand dollar house every time workers get thrown a small bone.

Well when I sell it next year all you lefties can throw a party because I guess to you that means success and fairness.

What is the problem with people making up the time once they are healthy?

LMAO @ him able to give up some of HIS wealth because he is comfortable.

Let’s put this right back on you then. I bet you eat three meals a day. There are kids in africa who barely eat at all. It is only fair for me to come take 2 of your meals and ship them to africa. What, it’s not like you can’t afford it?

You sure do waste a lot of time on NYSpeed for someone who is about to lose their house by giving employee’s 7 sick days a year.

I think all employees should offer sick days.

I do not think it is the federal government’s place to mandate it.

We need to abandon “what can the government do for me?” and go back to “keep the government out of my way.” But that’ll happen when me shit turns purple and smells like rainbow sherbert…

Government is traditionally the only help the consumer/employee has. If there wasn’t regulation we’d still have the 100 hour workweek for $1 an hour

If you are not going to read the thread please don’t bother posting.

Maybe if you spent as much time on your business as you do sitting on your ass blaming liberals on the internet, things might be slightly better?

all its going to do is turn the vacation time given to employees into paid sick time for employees. One of my boss’s banks overtime and cries poor all the time, is convinced overtime only has to be paid when over 48 hours.

The good, well taken care of for Christmas bonus, 1 week vacation time.

The company has 2 owners and 2 employees, yeah we do great work but as soon as I can, I’ll walk away. I’m just in that “comfortable” rut we all can fall into.

+1

Fuck this goddamn “entitlement” syndrome this country has fallen into.

America is fucked
