I took the dash out of my truck to paint it. I am going from the red to black.
What grit sandpaper do you use to get a nice finish?
how many coats of paint?
clear coat for interior?

(i’m guessing that your dash is metal?) as long as the current finish is in good shape, i’d say 400 grit wet sand, clean and dry, 2-3 coats of paint with 2 coats of clear. the clear will give it more depth and look much better IMO. if its vinyl or plastic, you’re gonna want to use a dye, just scuff with 800 grit and spray till covered.
the dash is all metal.
can you use clear if you rattle can it or would it be better to bust out my dads spray gun and actually do it the right way. I don’t know if a rattle can will get me the look I want or not. :dunno:
Use the real gun. Rattle cans tend to never cover as evenly. This is especially true and noticable on the clear coat. I did my center console with rattle cans and then painted my truck with a gun. Even as a newb painter the difference is very obvious at first glance.
Use the spray gun.
