what do u guys think about painting my stock wheels? i really want gun metal color wheels but dont have the money right now for a set. i been thinkin about it and found a set on a wrx painted the color i want and they look pretty damn good to me.
do it… or possibly go powdercoated for that your looking at about 200 bucks but the downtime without ur wheels could hurt
gun metal
i painted my fat fives, they look mint for a quick fix
Go ahead and do it tito…I was in the same boat…i wanted my wheels black but I really didnt have any desire to put anymore money in my truck in mods so I didnt wanna pay 70bucks per wheel to have them powder coated. I used the Duplicolor wheel paint and dont use their clear it messes shit up…just use automotive clear paint.
It took me about 7-8hrs to do them all…they look nice and are holding up well.
talk to AMF coatings
you would be very surprised at price and turnaround time
powdercoat>paint
powdercoating is definately better then painting…but don’t knock paint.
if you take your time & do it right, paint can turn out real nice…@ like 1/8 the price of powder coating.
old negative to paint for me is the durability (stone chips, scratches, etc…), it can be easily touched up, but a pain to do.
i’ve refurbed 3 sets of wheel & used paint…all tuned out good.
cool thanks guys. i think i am painting them since I am pretty good with a paint can and i cant afford to have my car down for a few days to have them powder coated.
here is the what i hope they will look like when i am done but keep in mind my car is white and these pics i found are on a red wrx. He taped off the lip and left it silver to give it a polished lip look and i like it like that
make sure you mark the weights.
or do what I did get them rebalanced with only inner weights. So doesnt mess up your finish
ya thats the only thing i was wondering on what to do. The place up the road from me will hook me up with getting them rebalanced.
black chrome AMF >&
thats what i wana do to my custom wheels
I would say if your on a budget then paint them. I painted 2 sets of wheels and had good success. I know its not as durable as powder but they can come out decent if you do it right.
Yea those look pretty good
ya i am on a budget. I plan on buying some new wheels next summer so this is just to hold me over til then
:dunno:
Looking at most of the intercooler piping / valve head covers / rims done at amf he does one awesome job and there prices are very good too…
