Where to get wheels sandblasted/powdercoated?

I’m looking to get my 17" Volk CE28N knockoffs sandblasted and powdercoated bronze before I put track tires on 'em, just like this color (I know these aren’t CE28N’s ::slight_smile: :lol ) :bowdown :bowdown

They are currently an ugly gunmetal with a hideous chrome lip, so this change is necessary ;D

Where should I go?

Thanks

Ryan

I’m starting the automotive program at valley next week. I’ll check out the size of the sandblaster for you :ninja

Spray paint for the win. :nod

If you’re going to use these for winter (which you are) don’t waste money on powder coating. It would be a minimum of $150 a wheel professionally.

If you scroll through there are multiple step by step instructions.

SandBlasting
~Jerimiah - Damonspeeds, will do it. he has a sandblaster

Powdercoat
~PowderTech

its ok, dont be ashamed, tons of people have Spoon knockoffs

depending on the material sand blasting might be a bit harsh and could pit them, might need to media blast

:+1…they do amazing work for a great price :nod

I’ve seen them. They actually don’t look that bad. I think one had a nasty bend in it.

Powdertech. If you fully prep them it will probably be cheaper. Call 'em and find out the price.

Don’t think they’d fit in his cabinet, they might though.

:+1 i want to do my wheels bronze as well.

hahahahahahaha Knockoffs :lol :lol :lol

are you nuts?! powdercoat doesn’t scratch or chip… where paint will with the smallest spec of dirt.

Where’d you get quoted $150.00 a wheel? I got quoted at Powdertech $50.00 a wheel.

im with massa on this. powdercoat is so damn strong that if u were to powdercoat a peice of metal, then proceed to hit it with a hammer it will actually dent with the metal instead of chipping like paint does. powdercoat is extremely durable and tough. its much better than paint in every aspect. paint is only ok for a surface that sees no wear or isnt exposed to the elements or rapid temperature changes. your wheels go thru all of that, plus physical damage from rocks, sand, dirt, salt and all kinds of other nasty things. you want powdercoat to protect the surface. even if you clearcoat the wheels after painting, its still not as durable. paint and clear coat chips. plus keep this mind: brake dust and pad deposits. have you ever noticed those black chunks that feel like theyre spotweded on the inside on your wheels? they come out flying from the brakes at high temperatures and will fuse to the paint and when you go to wash your wheels and begin chipping them off they will take your clear coat, the pant and the primer right along with them, leaving your wheels looking like swiss cheese. for a hardworking item like the wheel, you definitely want powdercoat or its not worth doing. hell, even 150 per wheel is worth it. you can get pretty much any color and any kind of finish(flat, semigloss, gloss or high gloss) these days. powdercoat is permanent shit. once its on the wheel, its on it for good. if u wana get it off, break out the grinder. hell, even acid like in those wheel cleaners doesnt eat it, and your paint? it will eat that shit right up! if youre going to do your wheels, do them right, dont half ass and paint them(no offense Travis), save your money, get them powdercoated. you will pay for it, get it done right, get it done once and forget it for all eternity. that finish on those wheels will outlive all of us!

you dont need a cabinet to media blast stuff. They have sandblast guns where you load the stuff up from the top and can do the stuff right outside. i did my 400 ex quad frame a couple years ago.

i might have to do that next year sence the rims i bought chipped

Holy lack of paragraphs, batman!!! :lol

And you don’t need to try and convince me to get them powdercoated, I’ve already made up my mind, it’s these n00bz who think rattle-can will look just as good and last just as long ;D

Chuck… these aren’t going to be my winter wheels anymore… I’ve got bigger plans, like it said in the first post.

I’ll shoot Damonspeeds a PM, I’m not on a huge time contstraint, I just need these done by next spring. I’m still undecided on what tires I’m going to get…

Thanks for all the help though, guys.

Also, I’ll get pics up of the wheels later this afternoon to get your opinions on how hard it would be to get out some of the scratches/bends, some of them are pretty bad, but I got them for $220 with 75% tread tires on them that Im’ about to sell, so I can’t complain.

when me and steve asked how big ti was he said he could it a deer in there :lol … so i figured a rim is a bit of a downsize, not that hes gunna sandblast a deer :lmao

That’s a really random object for comparison :lol

They’re 17x7 so I should be okay.
