Parked for a few weeks, car won't start

have you checked the other wires for spark from dist to plug, if you do i dont know im thinking if you have stock airbox or something, a animal might of crawled up that and died, and is plugging air.

haha win.

but that would smell. and the chances that it stops all airflow entirely would be minimal…

spark into disty, no spark coming from disty… kinda narrows it down to disty itself, cap or rotor.

lol nice idea, but I tried disconnecting the the airbox piping from the throttle body, and tried starting it using throttle body cleaner, didn’t work.

I’m still pretty certain the distributor cap isn’t close enough to the rotor or something of that sort…It leaves me stumped considering that it started for half a second before stalling. W.T.F.

… you took off everything up to the throttle body?

MAF…?

Also, if your rotor is worn down alot, or the contacts inside are oxidized you can count on a weak start/not enough to keep it running.

The contacts under behind the dizzy cap seem to have been slotted on the inside edge by metal to metal rubbing…and the rotor’s far edge has scratches. I have one screw missing from the dizzy cap, maybe the movement caused it to touch. I will find another screw from the junkyard when I install the new cap & rotor, which I still have to buy.

UPDATE: Got home from Waterloo, bought ngk plats, cap and rotor. Car started, took a while, it was ALMOST starting several times, it’s probably the almost 3 month old fuel. KA’s sound so badass without a muffler! :stuck_out_tongue:

Problem: Will not rev over 2.5k, almost stalls when revved after the rpm’s drop back down. Hunts a bit during idling.

I think its the MAF. They don’t just die out of nowhere…I’ll check the wiring and voltage, if anyone has an S13 KA24DE MAF, please let me know, I will buy it off you, or if you’re local, I’ll swap it to see if that fixes the problem, then buy it off you anyways. lol

I’ve been getting shitty mpg the whole time I’ve owned the car, I cleaned the MAF once last year with brake cleaner. I’m hoping I get better mpg once I replace it with a working one. We’ll see…

Thanks guys.

All is well. MAF was unplugged. The cold does that to you at night…lol

Now I need a new exhaust

Almost eh…frustrating. Been there. U’ll get it. Just some notes for problem times. Great basic info from 1st year auto (WAY long ago lol) to keep thinking clearly - Engines need 4 basic things to run - Air, Fuel, Compression, Ignition. If you break it down like that, its easier. Also, seen a few cars where the exhaust is restricted to point they wont run right or once saw one that wouldnt even start…rare but can happen.

Fuel - I’ve had cars sit for over 2 years and not had a problem with fuels…not saying the fuel doesn’t break down, but 3 month old fuel shouldn’t be a problem, unless it was a bad batch to start with.

About your MAF - not supposed to use Brake Cleaner to clean (not sure why, but its bad). So you could be right on about it being a problem now. There is a cleaner meant just for the MAF for next time.

If no one has a MAF I have one on an engine…but not willing to sell it as I will need it later. I would be willing to lend it to you to confirm if its the problem. Distance could be a pain though as I live just north of Burlington in Waterdown.

GLW the repair

Ha! LoL - I hadn’t updated the thread so didnt see your 12:13 post till I posted. Maybe some good info for you next time anyways. Glad its back to life, all is well LoL.

Hellz yeah.

Btw, OMG I love how KA’s sound. Next to the boxer engines, this is probably the best sounding 4 banger.
