ha ha yea i have been a valet and we always catch a bad rap for events such as this…
The guy in this story isn’t a valet, he’s just some parking lot owner who makes the customers leave their keys. The place even looks shady to begin with.
Valets simply don’t have the time to take someone’s car out for a joy ride, despite the fish stories people like to tell 3rd or 4th hand… and despite Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, lol.
It’s shitty that someone will associate him and this story with valets because of the title of the story.
Not to defend them because this isn’t the worst story I’ve heard about them… (I think they’re totally out of business as of a few years ago, I could be wrong though) but there isn’t a single valet company that takes responsibility for any items left inside a car. It’s standard limited liability.

If you read your rental agreement, most of them say you’re not allowed to park a rental car with valet. Most people don’t know this or ignore it. I’m surprised the rental company was so helpful.
I drive the MINI in my sig. I wasn’t so much worried about them crashing it, I was more worried about something similar to this happening.
So with all the cars a valet sees in a day you think your little mini is the one they just won’t be able to resist going all Ferris Bueller on?
No I’m sure there are much nicer cars that come through, but it’s my car and it’s important to me. Because of that I’m not comfortable with them driving it, that’s all.
I believe this is Valet parking for a cruise line. Usually they point you where to park your car inside the fence… I’m sure this situation puts the car near the exit of the gate so that you dont wait around after the cruise gets back.
Wasn’t aware there was no valet parking, but I could see that in they don’t like anyone but the person renting the car drive it. But I think the insurance company didn’t say much about it because the car was parked when they drove over it, so nobody was behind the wheel.
I also didn’t much care for the rule of ONLY valet parking at this establishment, no exceptions. I guess I could have gone elsewhere to eat…
I worked as a valet during the summer in schools for private parties at the mansions in newport. I parked plenty of big dollar cars, we had plenty of insurance.
In Atlanta, 9 out of 10 times when I go to dinner the only option for parking is valet. Its not that big of a deal, I actually prefer it most times because the valets are a heck of a lot more careful and generally competent than the idiots that park in the self park lot. Its unlikely that the valet driver is going to do something you or a previous owner hasn’t already done. Even when I cringed as one goof slipped the shit out of the clutch in my S4 it didn’t deter me. If something serious ever happens, that is what insurance is for, if not theirs, then mine. Its a car.
You seem like a douche when you do that in your Ferrari, but they’ll usually just let you park it out front. You seem like a HORRENDOUS douche who needs to get out more when you do it in your mini.
I undetstand where you’re coming from. That’s your opinion and that’s fine, but I don’t regret doing it and I’ll probably do it again next time.
To each their own.
For the record, I also drink to excess, don’t cross the street at crosswalks and enjoy having sex without a condom.
Yeah I would do the same thing as Baker.
It’s not even that I don’t trust a good majority of those people but I’ve seen first hand where they hire people that can’t drive manual. That’s always great for your trans/clutch…
:picard:
I am trying to remember where I was that had valet and I couldn’t believe it. It was just some random place which made it really weird and I was not prepared. I like to know in advance if someone is going to be driving my car, I don’t why I just do.
x2, prefer not to have my rape kit with me as well.
“Car? What car? I wasn’t drivin no car”
^Dash’s on main street used to have a valet service. As to the story, my car isn’t nice enough for any valet to want to beat it up although i have used valet from time to time when going to dinner somewhere nice. That being said, i think valets get a bad reputation just like most mechanics. Its just a general belief that most mechanics are out to screw you just like valet drivers mess with cars.
Literally LOL Where do you come up with this stuff. Rape kit?
Got pulled over with a friend in CT, 80’s Volvo 240. Cop asks to search car, we oblige, both too uncool to do drugs. Gas can, rope, tarp, hatchet, axe, machete, duct tape, lime, shovels and some other blunt objects… We were just clearing some brush, planting grass, and burning some brush up at his folks house. It looked real bad…
Odd, me too.
No one drives my car but me. My wife’s lucky I even let her ride in it. She still slams the fuckin door likes it’s my truck.
