Ok I am onto my next phase of bringing my 240 up to par. As some other might know from personal experiance a place that seems to rust on 240’s is behind the rear wheels. For example on mine if you go to the rear fenders and reach underneath (basicly above the exaust) that part of the fender has rotted away, the outer fender is in fine shape still and looks mint. So would this part be the wheel housing that has rotted away? I have the 89-94 240sx Parts catalouge that nissan use to sell, They classify the Rear Quarter Pannel as the area that you see. From what it looks like the quarter pannel sits on the outside, then there is a inner pillar assembly(the peice which your rear interior is attached to) and in between the two is the wheel housing. Maybe someone can help me clear up what part has gone.
Ok never mind I figured out what part it was.
So why not share it in case someone searches for this thread?
Ok the area that rusts out in the rear of the car is not the wheel housing its actualy the lower part of the rear pillar assembly. Now to buy this part from Nissan is about a nice cool 700USD (you get baciscly the rear quater of the inside of the car). Now the good news, the area that rusts out just so happens to not have any bends or impressions in it so to replace it all you need is flat sheet metal. Drop your exhaust system and anything else you need to get at the inner fender wall. Then just cut the rust out, template up the sheet metal into the size that is required to fit and weld it in, I would not recommend using auto appoxy on this one. The reason you should do this is two fold. One you cannot pass safty with this problem since it allows exhause gasses into the cabin of the car. The other is while it might not look bad from the outside soon enough the rust will begin on the outer fender. This is where it gets $$$ since you cannot just weld in a flat peice of sheet metal you will need proffessional body work.
