Rust on rear quarter panel

So my problem is that there is some rust in the corner of my rear quarter panels. It has rusted through in one spot. I was just wondering what would be the best way to fix this rust without having to pay a body shop $10000. It is a 91 240SX. Will post pitures soon.

Ya pretty common issue. over fenders? buy a welder? spend $9999 to fix it?

I just want to know do over fenders replace the quarter pnaels or just sit on top of them?

my pos has rust there too. except mine is also on the under side of that area. its rusted right through and you can stick your hand up in there and get to the inside of the hatch area.

think about the name ‘OVER fenders’…haha they go on top of the existing quarterz

sand paper and paint seems to work well… thats what the pros use :stuck_out_tongue:

but seriously, thats what i’ve done before with good results

i just sold my 91 240sx hatch with very little rust for $2500. if you’re serious about building a great car i suggest you start with a clean rust free shell. you dont want to spend 5g’s on a car that is filled with fibreglass and body puddy. if you just want it to look decent, get a back-yard person to do it. if you want a serious car then just spend the money and start with a good rust free shelll.

my suggestion is,if ur gonna do any racing to it and not daily drive the shit outta it,(and ur broke),just cover it up with some bondo panels and drift/drag/autocross the shit outta it till it hits something,then buy another shell,its bound to happen even if it ur fault or not,so may as well invest in the powertrain instead of the body.

yah man thats what i did with mine … although im going to cut the panels out and replace them with fresh metal but im not going to get them to finish it up properly just do the body work and then winter ready it somehow you cant tell me that with all this technology you cannot cover up that crap so that it doesnt rust out …but thats my personal goal … if ur broke then yes beat the shit out of this one and then get another in the mean time upgrade power train and suspension and brakes after ur done with the powertrain get another shell and transfer everything over … nothing that 1 month full of work cant accomplish

Thats not even that serious of rust. Take off the rear valance and see what the diagnosis is underneath, because yes it could be worse you don’t know. You might catch it early enough to sand it down, rust proof it, put rocker guard on it, and then put your rear valance back on.

Ya it doesnt really matter anymore seeing how the car got totalled last weekend cuz and idiot in a charger ran a red light.
