well as the days go on i get sucked more and more into the old school euros, mk1 and mk2 gtis to be exact, now it does should like a stupid question but it would help me out, i get very confused with all the stuff ive read online, to which motor goes with what car, what motor makes what power, if you vw guys can school me real quick on what motor is good, waht chassis is good etc, id really app it. well im looking to do a car i can mostly DD, and every now and then do auto x, it just needs to have some balls, im not looking to beat vettes or anything, i just dont want to ahve a issue getting on the thruway.
a well maintained mk 3 vr6 would be a good move. well maintained is key though. don’t just buy the first cheap one you come across.
yo man if you look on craigslist there are 2 mk3 2.0’s for sale, one has a good body just needs a tranny and the other was smashed up with good parts, he wants $650 for both. 2.0’s are pretty slow though

Doubtful on that, you probably mean mkII (1985-92) models for the jetta/gti
It’s like any other car, it’s all on the decency of the swap and if they did it right.
It sounds like you want a car that you can DD and not have to mess with. Your best bet is to get into a mkIII (93-99) and find something close to stock, and build as you go.
If you want to DD a swapped VW, particularly a mkI or mkII, you’ll pay out the ass for a “good” version that’s dependable.
i was on vwvortex finding that stuff, maybe it was a mkII, im not to sure ill have to find it and post it, im not to fond of the mkIII, they are all over the place and everyone has a clean one, i like the rareness of a clean mkI, im not sure on what motor to swap etc.
if youre going to go with a mk1 depending on how much cash you have to burn you can go 8v, 16v, g60, 1.8t, tdi.
trust me. you will throw a lot of cash into this…lol.
