Anyone know anything? Is it like an aftermarket warranty where it’s great until you try to make a claim?
My Maltese had a seizure last night. The 24 hour animal hospital said not to bother bringing him in unless he has another one or two in the same night because his blood wouldn’t show anything from just one. My vet this morning said we should have taken him in for bloodwork within 6 hours. :feck:
So either way we don’t know what his deal is, but I’m thinking it might be a good idea to get some health insurance for him for like 6 months in case this is the beginning of some sort of chronic condition.
Its not like people insurance, will not cover preventative maintenance and stuff. But it covers alot of big stuff. You can read through the coverages et al on site.
You pay up front, they reimburse IIRC - but we have never had to use it.
I think I pay 8/mo per cat, $12/mo for the shepard.
I was just reading AKC pet insurance. They have plans that will cover routine stuff, but meh. I can cover a couple hundo a year no problem. I’m just thinking it would be worth risking $150 for a year in case this turns into a multi-thousand dollar problem. Knowing my wife, we would go into bankruptcy to fix him if we had to. Hell I probably would too. I like my dogs better than I like most people. :roflpicard:
been thinking about this for my rescue corgi… ended up finding out it’s an AKC petshop dog after the fact, and lord knows what kind of health issues my dingo will end up with.
Shit. I just realized that the vet tech said she’d put a note in my dog’s record about the seizure when I called an hour ago. Now it’s a pre-existing condition.
GODDAMSONOFAMOTHERFUCKINGWHORE!!! :feck:
Edit: Deep Breath I may or may not have hypothetically found out through a little birdy somewhere that the vet could potentially accidentally not send that page to the pet health insurance. Or maybe it was a dream…
ask how there per ex works … if its like people or diff … if your dog has not been seen for this they can not prove its a pre ex issue … just saying … you are not a vet and can not diag a dog
I had some topsoil delivered last week and I got talking to the driver and he was telling me about all of the dogs he has shot over the years because they were sick. That sounds cheaper than insurance.
Edit: I am not sure where you live, there may being laws against firing weapons.:uhh:
did you find out how their shit works?? is it just like people … ie. if your dog has not been seen for X condition with a diag in the past 6 months there is no pre ex… ??
Private coverage will do until that universal pet healthcare bill Obama snuck through via executive order goes active.
Plus, if coverage is $144/year and I paid $800 for this dog 5 years ago so it’d probably cost $1k now, that’s going to be about 7 years before I break even. If I only get 5 years out of the next one, then it’s actually cheaper to get pet health insurance than to shoot it. :gtfo:
It just says anything on the vet’s records prior to the date the coverage began. There are a couple of breed specific exclusions too, but all in all it looks pretty good.
