Health insurance came in the mail. Start date June 10th. I can’t complain though. It wouldn’t exactly be ethical of me to have signed up for insurance purely to get someone else to pay the vet bills that I knew were coming. I still would have done it, but it wouldn’t have been ethical. :fry:
We’re trying a diet change. They’ve been on Nutro Natural Choice Lamb & Rice. The dogs had some digestive problems when we opened the latest bag, then the seizures started. The shit’s made in China and was part of that recall last year.
Now we’re doing some reading on holistic dog care to try and stem this off before we have to put the dog on phenobarbital for the seizures. I guess the dogs are never the same if they start that stuff. We switched to a grain free american made food and are going to be supplementing that with real meat and bones and whatnot. Hopefully a more “natural” diet will help to defuck whatever is going on.
I know this thread is about pet insurance, but just wanted to inform people, there is a vet that is in corfu that is fairly cheap for a visit, something like 30-35$ a visit, at least for dogs. My parents take our golden retriever to them, which they have only come back with good words about him. also friends of ours use him, and are the ones that recommended them to us.

I like pet insurance but be careful of the fine print. Know genetic conditions, like Cancer in Labs and Boxers or sezuires in Shelties may not be covered.
Care Credit is good, its a credit card with a high APR but only if you don’t make the payments within a certain time frame.
I worked at OPVMC for 5 years. They are good about different options for payment and they are good about leaving notes off the chart for preexisting things if you just talk with them and let them know you are trying for pet insurance.
I gave my American Dingo Nutro when she was a puppy… she had MASSIVE problems with it; bad UTI, horrible digestion issues, etc…
Switched her to Eukanuba Puppy for a while, then she got healthy; now both her and my Lab are on Blue Buffalo and have no digestion issues (Other than with Jax (lab) overeats, and gets the shits from too much food… typical Lab, won’t stop eating if there’s food infront of him)
We’re switching to this stuff. It’s a bit more expensive, but a lot less than long term medical problems. It’s worth a shot.
So far we can’t get them to go back to self-demand feeding. They’ll just eat the whole bowl if we let them. If it stays like this after the new-and-exciting wears off then it kind of suggests something about the quality of the old food vs this food.
my dog will only eat with me or the wife… if no one is home his food will go untouched, and if we’re not in the kitchen where his food is he brings out one mouthful at a time to wherever we are and he drops it all on the floor and re-eats it.
pretty off topic, but related to dog food, and it’s entertaining.
I feed both my dogs 2x a day… one scoop in the am, one at night. They both SCARF until the food is gone; I can add a 2nd schoop at night and they will continue to eat!!! Although it makes for a mess the next morning when they go out; you can tell they don’t feel well from overeating.
Jax has aquired a taste for eating socks now… he’s eaten/vomited up 3 of them in the past month… got a closed-top laundry hamper now… don’t want to think of the vet bill from that!!!
LOL!!! Nice… I caught my 2 stealing a 2x4 outta my basement shop one day… they made it to the kitchen before they got it sideways and NAILED the doorframe with it and couldn’t get it through…
I have found that the lab/chow we have at the gf’s house is quite funny about drinking and eating. if he is on the runner and we are standing where he can see us, he wont eat. if you give him the food and water, then walk away, he wont generally eat all that much, just a taste. but if you stand there, and just pet his head or something, he wont stop eating or drinking. lol Gotta love how much dogs want you around! they do nothing but cheer me up! except for them ankle biters, i cant stand them! sorry to who ever has them.

Nothing makes me feel better than a punch in the nuts when I come home from work.
She’s better now… now she just punches those that say “Ok, Ok, Ok…” then proceed to pet/scratch her. I tell specify that its up to them if they want her to behave.
For some reason, Kids do a better job than most adults.
