the budget build does it again…some safety equipment to update then we are good to go to travel through the 9’s here’s a look at how practice went in KC the day before the event…

sickkkkk!!! Can’t wait to see how it does
Sick! Im sure you guys will get it soon. Thanks for posting
car def moves out :eek
good luck hitting 9’s
Thats awesome
So you guys got another stock motor?
oh no, sorry i didnt put much info on this one. this one is a pistons and rods motor. eagle rods and JE pistons. stock sleeves and the same stock head from the last motor and same stock trans and axles. the stock head is the big problem right now. we cant spin the motor any higher and we are hitting the rev limit at 9300 rpm well before the thousand foot. the car is too quick for its own good right now. we dont want to use 5th and cant spin it any higher in 4th so we are forced to get some springs and retainers to go any faster. an easy fix though. the goal is 9.69@146-150mph on that setup…if it goes, it should give everyone doing a budget build hope for going fast lol.
Why not just use an ls tranny so you don’t have to touch the head
we have tried that in other cars and have had durability problems with the 1-3 gears. we tried just using an ls 4th but gsr and ls 1-3 are slightly different and it was enough of a difference to drop too low in the rpms when going into 4th. we like the ratio of the gsr, its perfect, so ideally the best option is to simply stretch that gear out a little further with more rpm. its time to go through the head anyways. springs are cheap so it still follows the idea of what the car is all about
^ you guys are animals! whats the total budget to date on this build?
Build me one of those things!! Ill give ya a $4300 quad for one :lol
At 9300 with 24.5 in slicks and a Gsr tranny the car should be doin around 146
total to date its around 12k, but if we did it all at once knowing what to get the first time around it would cost around 8k including the car, maybe less
yep,…we did the math too but it turns out its only around 144 in reality. we hit 144 before the thousand foot then slow down from there, which is why it was only 133 on the video, because he was on the brakes already. i have video of one of the runs where we had a bad 1/8 mile so he only hit the rev limiter riiiight after the finish and the trap was 143 so we think it goes to about 144 with that limit and tire size. On a good run where everything goes perfect we hit the limiter far before the end of the track and just have to coast the rest of the way. i can show ya that 143 trap if you want…you seem skeptical again for some reason lol. same as last time
No not skeptial at all. It’s just weird how your hitting the limiter before the 1/4 that’s nuts. I’m just trying to calculate it all. My buddy went 142 with a b16 tranny at around 9300
oh i see. he must have been on 26in slicks then because with a 24.5 a b16 trans will only take you to around 137-138 at 9300rpm…thats what the math says, but the math was wrong on ours too so it might not even be that fast. we have a guy we compete with a lot that is usually in the high to mid 10’s and he just switched to an LS and he hasnt been back in the 10’s since he did, so its wasnt just us it didnt work out for lol. we are using a gsr and we are still in 4th right before the 1/8. we done some research and people seem to just have more luck with spinning the motor a little higher in our situation. really we arent going to need more than 100 or maybe 200 more rpm to be able to trap over 150 but we need the valvetrain so we can do it reliably and not be scared to float valves every other run down the track.
we are going with a slightly bigger tire to help with the gearing too. its only a 25in tire but it grows more than the 24.5 on the big end. but we might find out that this is not a good way for us either… gotta try it to find out i guess.
Yea a guy on here went 10.9 at 142 with a b16 trans on 24.5’s with no two step
Yeh he is on the forums here. His rev limiter was 9500 and he did not hit it
ah, ok 9500 limit changes things. the math shows exactly 142mph possible at 9500 with that b16 transmission. maybe 143 leaving some room for error. so definitely possible. he must have been cutting it close at the end there. our tranny at 9300, doing the math, should let us go 148, though i dont think we are going that fast when it cuts us, but i could be wrong. when we were predicting how the car would do on a full pass based on times and differences in speeds from previous runs of just first half pulls and just second half pulls we figured we were going to trap just under 150…we just didnt think it was going to get to that speed so quickly. we very well may be going 148 when it cuts us. we cant tell exactly from the hondata software because the numbers for the speedo are based off a different diameter tire so its inaccurate. all we have to go on is the trap speed at the track and since we are slowing down before we get there we have no idea how fast we are actually going lol. i was thinking around 145 but the math says 148…regardless, we clearly need more rpm to finish out the last bit of track. id be stoked to trap a 150 this next time…and pissed at the same time cuz we will have to get a chute… lame. as long as we get the times we want, i couldn’t care less about the traps.
I am sure you guys will get there no problems
