Phantom Parking Tickets

Has anyone here ever received a parking ticket that couldn’t possibly be yours?

I got a notice in the mail that apparently I got a ticket for being parked somewhere I’ve never been, ever. And I’m apparently late to pay it too. It’s for somewhere in Cheektowaga.

Is there a way to fight this or should I just mail in the $50 before it turns in to more?

there not gunna care. just pay it and move on.:frowning:

+1 guilty until proven innocent. unless you can prove you were out of town or can provide paperwork proving where your car was at that time why even waste your time going in.

I have recieved a ticket from New Rochelle, NY (by NYC). I have never been to New Rochelle and I just called and explained the situation.

I would just call and explain. Should be able to get it taken care of without much ado.

i had the same problem told them i was away on vacation and that was not possiable!

did that actually work??? because i can totaly see half the city of buffalo calling and protesting the same thing if they thought they could get away with it.

Best bet is to just pay the $50, my scam can’t work and i won’t be able to fill my gas tank if people ignore these parking tickets:wiggle:

My boss got one in the mail that their car was parked downtown. She called and fought it becuase it was like $125 and they dropped it becuase they said something on the ticket was not right. The plate was wrong or something and she said she was ready to prove that no one was in town and the vehicle wasn’t in the area when the ticket was given.

You got to have some rights. Personally, its more effort but I refuse to pay shit that I didn’t do and would call the office.

if you find a way, let me know

I got a phantom EZPass violation before. It supposedly took a picture of my car going through the EZPass lane without a pass in it. The problem is, that my car was off the road at the time, so I called and explained. The women I talked to on the phone said it happens all the time, and she took care of it.

In your case, I would imagine they took the wrong plate number down, or maybe transposed a number wrong, like they substituted a “1” for a “7” or a “B” for an “8” or something, and then they looked up the plate for the registration address to mail you the ticket.

Try to call and explain. The worst they can do is deny it.

Find out if the place even exists first. One time I got a ticket in Hamburg for an address that doesn’t exist, I paid it like a sucker, not noticing, my friend noticed and got out of it.

I’ve also gotten tickets in buffalo, with an address that didn’t exist and a parking zone I wasn’t even in, I was in a section for no parking on school days and what with it being summer and all silly me figured I was ok, but another section of the street was no parking mon. and wed. Don’t you know it was monday.

I argued it but the guy in charge of hearing it was one of the dumber persons I had ever talked to, I’m just glad the government exists. Or else a lot of really stupid people would probably not exist.

jesus, what is with this roll over and take it mentality?

at the least make a phone call. police are people, they fuck up. something might have been written down wrong or read wrong by another person after the fact. i wouldn’t be surprised if they drop it, seeing as it is one of thousands of tickets written in the town.

give it a try, worst case scenario, they tell you to pay anyway.

call them. my mom got a ticket for parking somewhere in downtown Rochester that she has never been. They apologized and she didn’t have to pay.

Obviously I’m going to call and see what I can do. I’ll give it a shit when they’re open tomorrow.

Josh, on the ticket it should have your vehicle information as well… if it matches, eh, good luck…

I received a ticket that I fought in Buffalo. I parked under a sign that said “No parking during business hours” (In front of a bunch of offices.)

Ok it is ~10pm I should be fine right? Wrong got a ticket.

I went in to fight it. I took a picture of the sign, they had a cop go verify it. Then I came in to talk with this lady, and she was extremely stupid. She kept saying, “If you weren’t sure you could park there you deserve the ticket.”

I never said I wasn’t sure and I would tell her, “Look, I read the sign, I’m a competent person, what office is open at midnight? I read the sign and according to the sign I could park there!”

They reduced the $75 fine or what ever to $10. At first I didn’t even want to pay that. But what the hell. I already wasted a few hours of my time and an hour or so of hers.

Gurrr!

Well I sure as hell don’t drive an '01 Chevy Silverado, lol. There was a transcription error on the original ticket so I’m free and clear
