I have to agree with Jason, The OP added a “slightly thicker” head gasket, not a head spacer and two gaskets. Something else is going on here…

Exactly. At most the cams are around a degree off which would not cause the problems described.

my gsr is running like shit. super overloaded with fuel. any ideas??

Is it definitely dumping tons of fuel? Raw fuel coming out the exhaust? At idle? Higher RPMS?

check to make sure your vacuum line to your FPR is connected as well as check to make sure your map sensor is also properly installed. Having vacuum leaks at either one of those would cause your car to run richer than it should at all but WOT.

so your telling me that changing the cam profile (which is exactly what happens) will not affect a tune in anyway? that makes no sense at all. if your theory was true, you could slap any type of cam in a stock engine and it’ll run like it was designed without any tuning? BS. the cams are out of time and now fuel is dumping out of the exhaust. imagine that. chris double check the compression and do a leak down test. when that’s confirmerd good, pick up some cam gears. (and studs) or what i would have done n the first place, a stock gasket and studs. good luck buddy.

Thats exactly what im telling you. I’ve been doing this for a good while now, been there, seen that. Now, im not saying that changing your compression ratio and cam profiles isn’t going to need tuned. It indeed will need fine tuned for optimal power. Though, the car will still run like its previous setup.

… in the mean time, i’ll wait to see what chris has to say.

First, adding a thick hg wont change a thing. I’ve done a bunch and the motors start back up identical to how they were before. Hopefully it was installed correctly… out of curiosity, was it copper sprayed?

Is it running rich, or is it just running rough? There is a difference. Also, what ecu are you running? Chipped I assume? Do you know what circuits are turned off (if chipped) that may not bring a Check Engine Light up?

Hondas are rarely mystery machines. Most problems are straight forward when all precautionary checks come out positive…

So, check timing. crank it till the cam gear marks stand up, then line the crank up with TDC (not the firing marks). If its in time, check compression for the heck of it since you changed the hg, then report.

sounds to me like toby just did what you asked and you didnt think things out properly or just magnified other previous problems, i know hes not one to just slap shit together

i am not saying toby messed anything up. i am just wounderin if anyone else had this prob and could help me figure it out. at idle it smokes black. if i get . on it its really black. runs kind of rough to. i unpluged the map senser and it seemed to idle alot better.

Yes. I recommend and use it with MLS gaskets if you aren’t having the block and head decked. It just helped to seal any small, small imperfections in the surface. I’ve ran and built several cars using MLS gaskets with copper spray and no decking, and they’ve all ran great/produced great compression numbers.
