Boy let me tell ya, if I knew someone with a hoist in stony I could borrow for a day, I could probably have this done. Believe me, Neil from Speedworks has my business for anything more complicated than a catback.
Dammit…too bad it’s on the other side of the city from me.
$15/hour is a hella good deal considering it’s WITH tools and a hoist. Sure it’d be cheaper to do it at home - but I imagine that hoist would make a huge difference.
After all, my car has freaking terrible jacking points as it is.
Like a genius, I managed to round off one of the nuts between the midpipe and first catback section, so now instead of just having an o2 sensor bung welded into the new midpipe, they get to cut a totally ruined stud/nut out too.
Oh, and just so you know, dremel cutting wheels explode when exposed to tempered steel bolts.
On the plus side, I’ll get to see what it’s like to drive a honda when I drive the car back from the repair shop with just the header connected.
Not that anyone cares by now…but somehow, despite my best tries to the contrary and my total lack of mechanical skill…the header/midpipe/evo2 are now firmly mounted on the Spec. Of course, the alternator is still disconnected and the drive belt isn’t in place - but other than that it is more or less finished.
Anyway, I definately didn’t save anything by not having Speedworks do the install (had to buy practically every tool I needed), but at least I have the XP. If any Spec guys here (who am I kidding, I’m the only one :D) need some help installing CAI/Header/Exhaust, I’d be happy to help.
You’d be lucky if you could fit a 6" pole anywhere around that fucking thing! (Fortunately, unlike in most life/mating situations, a big tool wasn’t required. :D) There were a couple times where I wish my freakin’ forearm had a hinge in it.
Oh well…still need to get the boys at Speedworks to do the brake lines and motor mounts - I’m not THAT much of a pretend handyman. Hey, maybe I’ll actually be able to bring it out to an event one of these years…
I should just remove my entire arm and replace it with a cybernetic socket with which I can equip various power tools. Can just see the infomercial now:
“What goes from removing bolts to grating cheese to pleasuring morbidly obese women in 30 seconds? Why it’s the new “Miracle-Arm 3000”, from Slime-co!”
Well, somehow, some way I managed to get the belt back on, start the car and run it for 15 mins. No leaks, no weird smells, no burning belt, no SES light. There’s only two problems:
FUCKING SNOW! Now my car has ~25 whp and ~25 wtq more, and I can’t test ANY OF IT! I need a crying smiley.
Boy, is it Ricerific. I’ve heard once a little soot accumulates in the pipes the exhaust tone mellows out. After it warmed up in the garage, I revved it up a couple times and my neighbor came out and told me she thought a couple of cars were trying to street race in our crescent. Pretty embarrassing when the EVO 2 I chose was supposed to be the second quietest one for the Spec V.
Anyway, so I’ll be bringing it to the next snow-free event. You’ll probably hear me coming.
I can’t believe you had that much of a problem with it. Anyway, good on ya for giving it a shot. Nice to know I’m not the only loud ass I/H/E Spec V around.
Hurry up and install your MMI’s and stainless brake lines. Those made the biggest difference to the whole FEEL of the car. The brake pedal feels much better, and it’s so much cooler to leave a light quick without wheelhopping. Not to mention your shift feel will improve dramatically. Let me know if you want a hand installing either of them. Both installs are REALLY easy. Don’t pay someone to do something that you could do yourself (with a bit of help).
