Prefered Purchase price to Parts price ratio?

Given a budget, let’s use $30K. How would you spend your money on an “extra car”

One thought is to buy a $5000 car and spend the next $25K to make it just the way you want to. With that kind of budget you can get just about everything you want on the car, Engine, Turbo-kit, wheels, Brakes, fresh exterior mods, interior mods, suspension…

The other would be to buy a $25000 car (used, new doesn’t really matter) and spend $5000 on mods, like exhaust, wheels, suspension, a few exterior things, perhaps only a :snky: swap or turbo, whatever.

So which would it be?

Start with a 25000 car and proceed to spend and endless amount of $ to make it the way you want it over a period of many yrs.

Not an option Dumbass. I guess that would put you in option 1

Get the 5k car. It would be alot more satisfying to have a car built exactly to your likes with the extra 25k. The only way i could see doing the 25k car is if yo ucan buy a 25k you already think is amazing to begin with that you just want to put your finishing touches on a little bit.

Youre thinking of buying a cobra arent you :omg:

:stuck_out_tongue:

do i get free labor? if so, then cheap car, lots of parts
if i have to do the work myself or pay, id buy a decent platform to begin with.

buy a 5000 then dump some cash in to make it what you want. If you bought a 25000 car and dumped only 5 in you could blow that in wheels, tires and maybe an exhaust alone. Personally it all depends on what your goal is for the car.

Unless you are buying someones project that they lost out on majorly, it would be time to start a project that you can lose out on majorly :stuck_out_tongue:

i have one of these for sale if anyone is interested…

you wont see the money back on a 5k vehicle, but to me that would be alot more fun…

5k car + 25k of mods

depends on the car and what you want to do to it :gotme:

Buy a $1k car, put $3k in parts, $2k in track time, $5k in a pimp tow vehicle, and $1.2k in a trailer.

Spend $1.5K in tires/brakes, and $2k in track time yearly for the next 5 years.

=$29.7k

LOL I forgot to add that option for you :stuck_out_tongue:

This isn’t for me anyway, I’m not getting anything this year, just saying what would you do.

X…

sometimes you can be such a weiner. :stuck_out_tongue:

5K on car (like i did) and 25k in mods (like i’m sure i’ll end up doing…)

I would pick a car I like, then the rest to mods.

In this case, would probley pick up a S14 for 5k, then jeez for 25k in mods I can go all out and redo the WHOLE thing lol

5k with 25k in mods sounds a bit rediculous, but 25k for a car and 5k for mods is a bit too little becouse usally when a car cost more so do the parts.

I was just telling this to STEALTTH the other day - I wouldn’t spend more than $15k on a car that I planned on modding.

:word: with new cars sometimes i just can’t stand to mess with things. in case something goes horribly wrong.

In all honesty I would probably split it around the 50/50 mark. Just so I could get a newer better looking version of whatever car i wanted.

I would choose option 3, $10,000 car $20,000 in mods. I think you may be better of with a better base car in the long run.

i think he’s just seeing who would rather spend more on parts than the car and who would spend more on the car than parts.

we don’t need to get all specific here. haha.

i personally have already spent twice as much on parts then what i bought my car for so…you know my choice.
