I’m lucky all my fav cars are older
I’d do what i do now
$5k for galant (well, around there) - 25K in mods
ugghhh

i personally would rather spend more money making the car exactly what i want. so yea ide spend the 5k on the car and 25k on mods
I was thinking about this earlier today. I think if I had the money, I would more or less fab something myself. Start with like an old VW Beatle shell, all CF/glass/Aluminum body. LS7. Enjoy.
define extra car
which kbb value are you dealing with on the price of the fictional car? If you are going by dealer resale, I’d go with the $5k. If you’re going with personal/private trade, I’d go with the $25k.
reasons:
of course, everything has exceptions.
I personally would go for a $5k private sale. Definitely for a pre-1995 car that still in decent shape. Fuck OBD-II
:word:
:bsflag:
And I say $25000 car because I know you will spend more then $5000 mods…
Meh, I know having a track specific car isn’t for everyone. But still I’d like to see people put track time into their budget.
5k is too much for the WHOLE project…lol.
is it just coincidence this poll closes on st. patty’s day?
part of me likes the $5k car route, another likes the $25k car route.
Poll fixed.
I’d spend 25k on a really nice car, possibly used but less than 2 years/20,000 miles old. Drive it for 6 months while reading/learning a ton about it and popular worthwhile mods, then spend the 5k selectively on the best mods that I want. For example:
25k on a used G35C, 5k on high quality performance mods.
see, this really depends on a few certain things, if you clarify i will answer…age of person in question, amount of money in the pocket of person in question, job security, comfortablilty putting $25k into a $5k car, weather or not you would keep the car in question until it takes a shit/are you going to want to sell it in the future?
i just said something like this in another thread, but here it goes again: I would have to say it depends on the car and what you are looking for. for example: my friend (who is on this forum) bought an 03 Mustang GT for around 14 grand. He probably has about 6 grand into it (and I may be over-shooting that figure). right now, his car will beat corvettes (some of them) which cost a lot more. so he has 20 grand into his car (including the price of the car) and it will beat a car that costs doubble that.
Now, I will use myself as an example: when i was looking for a performance truck, I thought about getting a Gen 2 or Gen 3 Lightning. I realized at the time, i was probably going to spend about 25-30 grand. after doing some reasearch, i kept coming back to my original idea of buying a Dakota R/T. i came to the ralization that i could (and did) buy one for around 10 grand and put the other 15 grand that i would have spent on a lightning, into the R/T and make it faster than a lightning. and thats what i plan to do.
of course you could always go out and buy a Hennessey Venom Viper and not have to drop a penny into it and beat 99% of the cars on the street.
:word:
All you need to do is find some car you really like and buy it with a blown motor…
I could get a 1998 LS1 Fbody with no motor or trans for $5000ish
I don’t care what you say i’m assuming this is for you. You’ll have the passatt so this car can be unreliable and unruly. For that reason I say the cheap car with lots of mods philosophy makes more sense.
You can make Newman’s car around 1000 hp done the right way for 25k including purchase price. That leaves 5k for track time etc. I know because I did the math when I was considering it.
Hmm…well he really liked the FD when he bought it…but he just sold it with blown engine for 3x that.
i was just about to say the same good thing i decided to read a bit.
buy a DD for 7-10, buy a non DD lightly moded for 3-5, and have fun with 4k, then put the rest into savings for a rainy day.
I’d buy a car for $5000, put about $10-$15K of parts into it and use the rest as a downpayment on a house with a big garage!!
If that was a choice, that would be it.
