Problem with Trans Am

If the main bearings are okay, then does the block have a chance?

if the main are okay then the block should be fine, if the cam bearings went out and scored the bearing seat you can always have it line bored.

even if the mains are scored the crank wil more than likely have to be turned and line bore the mains.

nowadays you can fix just about anything wrong with engine blocks if you wanna pay for it

Im having my whole block worked over just cuz im paraniod after the clusterfuck that went on with my motor

LS1 :naughty:

yes the block is fine!

I never touched it …

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Yeah, you’re off the hook Shag.

I don’t know. I think I caught it early enough that things aren’t completely wrecked. But I don’t feel safe just replacing the rod bearings, so the block has to come out to do the cam bearings, and might as well do main bearings too. And like Red said, the crank probably needs some work, so why not do a stroker. And I’ve been using oil, so I should do rings too. Bored 0.030 too? New pistons. Might need bigger injectors and fuel pump too. It all sounds good but, $$$$.

What’s a rough cost for the machining to bore, hone, and replace all the bearings (not including price of bearings)? What about just the bearings? Am I missing anything else (other than starting with an LT4 for 4 bolt mains)? I need to do a little reading in Rebuilding the LT1/LT4.

What the hell, let’s do lower compression pistons and supercharge it too. Then I can do a built tranny and 12 bolt too. The girls don’t HAVE to go to college. :smiley:

Or it may just sit in the garage indefinitely and I’ll be miserable. :frowning:

Corvette Lt1’s have 4 bolt mains…and u can make ur motor into a 4 bolt main!!! i say go with a 383 stroker with ur heads!!! that would be soo nice!!!

hopefully it will be ok!!!
