Problem with Trans Am

Few days ago the car stalled when turning into the driveway (at idle). Took it out yesterday and it started to stall every time I came to a stop. It was a little hard to restart too, didn’t turn over too easily.

I’ve also noticed that it needs oil every once in a while (that might be related to the leaking front oil pan seal though).

It runs okay as long as I give it gas, and the oil pressure looks okay.

Any ideas on what it might be or what I should check? Vacuum leak?

I also THOUGHT I heard knocking when I came home up my hill, but I might just be paranoid and it could have been the exhaust. Would a spun bearing cuase my symptoms? God I hope not.

jims car did that last night and mine did that to me 4 years ago when we spun bearings

PVC valve? Vac leak? i would put my money on that before you check bearings…

take a small propane bottle and turn it on while the car is running, and put it close to all your vac lines… your rpms will go up if you come across a leak…

have u had the battery on hooked latey? if so relearn the idle

Whens the last time you changed your fuel filter? Seen this happen to many cars before and fuel filter is an easy and cheap place to start.

Plugs, or wires? Also could be an EGR valve sticking

turn the idle up

EGR DEEEEEEEEELETE. i threw that peice of shit in the garbage. who needs it :blue:

the egr help keep engine temps down.yea its a pain but it dont add an HP

I’ve been throwing an EGR code for years now every once in a while. When the valve was off I cleaned it up, but it did feel like it wanted to bind a little.

but keeps your intake track muccccccccch cleaner when you get rid of it

It is a good idea to keep the egr on your daily driver. Try some carb clean in the throttle body, and threw the IAC motor.

Pulled the vaccum from the EGR and plugged it. Took the car out ran fine for about a 1/2 mile, didn’t want to shift right, stalled. Drove it back home and it started rapping/knocking. Time to drain the oil and cut open the filter.

shit, call me if u want me to stop down

The good news is, my oil filter is working properly. The bad news is, it filtered metal!

It may be a long time before this car is back on the road.

yeah sounds like the rod bearings like i said in post 2

sorry to hear…

might be time to put a ls1 in it

sorry jeff

I don’t have the money to put an LS1 in it. I need to figure out what all I’ll have to do just to get it running.

i bet the cam bearings went first!
