First question: Who here has installed a short throw shifter before *
Second question: is it worth it to install on a stock 91 240
short shifters are pretty sweet man, id say def worth it.
plus a short shifter for a KA is the same for SR (im not sure about RB series or CA) so you can use the same one if u plan to swap.
you should do it.

try not to blow ur syncros that is all
only short shifter worth buying and installing is he B&M one… it’s a bit harder to install than most since you have to unbolt the tranny crossmember (you have to do this since you need to replace the mounting plate as well). It’s worth every penny though
dont bother i had one on my 89 240sx and it didnt really make a huge difference it was B and M its just a waste of money i dsont no about anyother one
s but if ur dragin or drifting they can be amazing
i have had a B&M style (not genuine B&M) on the same tranny through multiple motors and over well 60,000kms without any issues whatsoever… and it makes a big difference in shift feel and overall enjoyment.
B&M for teh win.
like Lith said, worth every penny.
it’s easier to install if you undo the tranny crossmember, but you can still pull it off without doing that - i did.
easy to install. much more solid feel and much shorter throw over stock.
Tomei ftw. That is what I use. And so should you guys.
Just make sure you don’t get Megan, or OBX, or any of the other ones that don’t replace the whole assembly.
^ why not?
I have a cosmo racing ss installed on mine, for 80$, it’s worth it
I had a Megan, felt an OBX, went back to stock because I couldn’t stand my Megan, spent the $ on a B&M, and the B&M on my S13 actually felt BETTER than the shifter on my G coupe. I’ve also felt a Bing’s shifter, and it was pretty nice, but I could definitely feel a difference between it and my B&M. Then again, the B&M is double the price, and I wouldn’t say it’s twice as good.
It depends on what you’re looking for in a shifter, but the B&M was by far the most satisfying mod I’d ever done. It made the car much more enjoyable to drive.
Just curious, what’s one way of blowing out your synchros?
I got the B and M and I love it Makes the car feel much sportier to drive, gear shifts become little clicks forward and backwards. I installed it without touching the tranny cross member, just takes a bit more time unless you have those ratchet style box wrenches.
the shifter moves the syncros back and forth which then slide over the gears… If you use a crappy shifter like me cough pilot cough, it doesn’t slide the syncros all the way over the gear and that wears down the teeth. Over time the teeth get so warn down the syncronizers don’t syncronize the gears and leads to gear grinding and not engaging gears. This means when you try to speed up your shifts, the syncro won’t allign properly and that gaer will jam, trust me, it’s super embarassing!LOL! I also had a problem with reverse popping out, which was the syncro not fully over the reverse gear combination. I can’t speak for the better brands but the design is better and a much more confident install.
