Question about alloy wheel refinishing

Has anyone done this? I have been reading online and it seems simple. Basically what I have read is clean, sand, clean, paint clear. My question is it worth doing your self or just buying new wheels? I have read for stripping the old wheel some say sand it others say use aircraft remover or some kind of auto paint remover. Also every site seems to say to use a spray can with wheel paint. Is this the best finish? I would think that it would chip and peal even with a clear coat also from a spray can. Everything I have read says to just basically sand them with 200 then to 400 grit sand paper but the pro sites say they the media/ sand blast them to get a better finish, I have access to sand blasting equipment. The pro sites also say they bake them in an oven then clear them. I have access to a commercial oven I could bake them in. I just do not know if I am wasting my time trying to refinish them, I do not want them to look like junk and I do not want to put all the time into them to have them not last long. If it matters I am thinking about refinishing a set of Chevy 16" alloy wheels. Thank you in advance for any advice.
