Question about truck emissions

My buddy has a 1982 GMC High Sierra with a 4" lift, 35’s, and true dual exhaust with Flowmasters. The passenger side pipe rusted through completely, so we cut off the pipe about 6-8" behind the muffler, clearing the rear of the cab.

Before he spends money on a new pipe, we were wondering if he could just dump the exhaust after the mufflers instead of buying 6 feet of new pipe. I had heard in PA as long as the exhaust clears the passenger cabin, it can exit anywhere. It also has no cats. Just wanted to make sure it was legal to run turndowns.

honestly its up to who is doing your emissions. Some people are picky and dontwanna climb under ur car. Just get an extension and turn it to the side of the vehicle. Unless you ask the person if they mind it.

That would be a good idea too. He had the over-axle pipes from the Flowmaster kit that had the tips that exited at a 45 degree angle right under the rear corners of the bed.

they have to exit the body behind the cab!

has to exit body past the cab, mine exits along the bed side

repost

Thanks fellas
