question- hypothetically speaking...

Half seems a bit excessive. If he seemed honest about it and I doubted myself about the condition of the tires even a little, I would offer to pay for the new tire. Refunding half the price seems ridiculous.

There is no indication that the rip or any physical damage was at the fault of the seller. The buyer inspected the tires and made the purchase. The buyer should get nothing more than a valuable lesson.

Well…I always thought when purchasing on nyspeed “if I don’t want to take a risk, I’ll pay retail”

So I’d just consider myself scammed and move along.

Matt Herbovski did it to me all the time…
F.S. Snow…oh, it melted…scammed.

depends on the person IMO.

You pay for what you get when you buy used.

Plus you checked it out in person then left happy. Should’ve done a better job checking.

Think about it from the seller’s P.O.V. : you’re happy, few days later “there’s a rip in the sidewall.” What’s stopping the guy from thinking maybe you took it to some shitty place to get them installed, they tore it, and now ur SOL and looking for a quick fix.

Not saying you are like that, but I wouldn’t blame the seller for thinking along those lines.

Shitty situation. There’s a few things I’d only buy new, and tires are one of them. Just not worth the risk.

If I was the the seller it would depend on who the buyer was. If I didn’t trust the buyer I’d have no way of knowing they didn’t take the tire to walmart and one of their idiots ripped the sidewall trying to mount it.

If I could trust the buyer 1/2 back no problem.

I would probably do half, but I’m a terrible seller.
I treat people the way I would like to be treated.

At the same time, I try not to buy from strangers.
The less I know about a seller, the more I inspect what I’m buying.

If anything I would refund 25% of the sale or half the price of a new tire. No reason to refund 1/2 the purchase price if 3 out of 4 tires were fine.

There is so much confusion in this thread.

There are only 2 tires:

There was no way of seeing the rip until the tire was inflated:

And NOWHERE in the opening post is it mentioned that you would be refunding the price of a new tire, simply half (one tire’s worth) of the money that the buyer gave you.

JESUS FUCKING CHRIST, YOU GUYS REALLY NEED TO WORK ON READING COMPREHENSION.

That said, if the seller seemed like an honest dude, I would CERTAINLY refund him half the money. If the buyer seemed like a scumbag scammer, like 3sny, I would not.

if the damage isn’t foreseeable like in this case. i would refund it.

If I had the tires on something and knew they were good and took them off and sold them and then heard of a problem, Id hafta go with no refund because to me they were good when I sold them and who knows what happened to them after I sold them.

If I happened to come into some used tires that I never had mounted or used, and sold them and then heard about a problem I might toss the buyer back some bucks on it only because I couldnt be positive that they were all good when I sold them.

If it were me I would probably not even bother contacting a seller over a matter of 1 used tire. I’m cheap, but not poor.

If you paid less than $50 for used tires you should just STFU.
How much did you pay?
I have some used kleenex for sale if anyone is interested.

thank you someone finally fuckin pointed this out, i was about to go on an angry rage.

and i agree with fastmofo. how much were said tires? 20bucks each? big fuckin deal. you can get NEW ones for 50$ shipped. i wouldnt buy used tires even if it was on some POS. would you buy used brake pads and rotors just to save a few bucks? if you would, you suck

I bought a set of used tires from fox this past fall. They have had a bunch of dumb leaks and whatnot. I am never buying used tires again. It’s not their fault. Used tires are just that. Used tires.

How about posting all that said F the Buyer- Then we can all not deal with them

as a seller I would refund some money.

as a buyer I would ask once for some money back. then give up if they didn’t pay and probably note them as a poor seller on the internet. I’d also probably stop buying used tires.

As someone who has mounted 1000’s of tires. I can’t see how the seller could not see a rip in the tire. I also would give the buyer some cash back.
