Racing Seatbelt Harness 4-point and HOW TO 'PROPERLY' attach

hey guys
i was just wondering whats the best way to attach a racing harness safely so if u get into an accident it wont damage your body/spine, anyone got suggestions ? is bolting it to the seat mounts legit ?
thanks.

Weld in a Harness Bar

The straps that are bolted down in the reaR must be parellel to your sholders, Not slanting down, Old seat belt mounting points is a no no, I am removing my harness this weekend untell i can get a harness bar.

can the harness bar be the rear strut tower bar ?

i have heard that is not the greatest idea.

but don’t the cops make you mount your harness to the stock points?

as long as you wear the stock seat belt as well they dont care, i will buy a 90’ s13 harness bar if anyone has one, after all, safety’s important

no one makes one.

im doing mine custom actually

and for god sakes dont mount the harness to the strut bar.

GT

I’ve seen them floor mounted at pretty extreme angles, its ok if your shoulders are below the openings in the seat. Most harness and seat companies do not recomend more than a 45 degree downward slope however.

i have heard that mounting to the stock rears in a 240 isnt bad
i guess as long as you havea high quality seat, and properly bolt in the mounts to the stock mounts, you should be ok

Would you Trust your life to a $30 ebay special bomz racing strut bar?

Or a $150 welded in solid pice of steel?

Think about it dude… Your life depends on that harness…,

i was refering to te stock rear seatbelt mounting position… not the strutbar

i have seen it done successfully… but i agree that a harness bar is the best option

sorry I was wrong about the 0-45 degrees, I must have read that on another page, clearly try to make it as square as possible.

If you don’t have a cage, or rollover protection, and you have a harness attached to the floor, and the car rolls over, the harness will keep you locked into the upright position. Unforuneately when the roof caves in, the only thing holding the roof up will be your neck and spinal columb.

This means if you DONT HAVE ROLL OVER PROTECTION, and you have a harness, it can KILL YOU…

Use you head…

Ugh…

I am tired of telling people this, thats why I didn’t post.

With a 3 way belt like comes stock, your body can move to the center of
the car. With a 4+ point harness you’re held straight up and the roof will
own your neck and spine.

Futhermore if you mount the seatbelt at too high of an angle, any sort of
front end impact will result in spinal damage, as the seatbelt will compress
you downwards into your seat, rather than simply keeping you from
moving forward.

If you want to be held in your seat better just get a better seat, and lock
the belt with a quick tug before you start driving.

To reiterate the point made by any knowledgable members of this forum.

You cannot safely wear a harness without a ROLL BAR.

Locked.
