Re IC: Welding *Edited With Pics! On Page 1

If you arn’t running foam on your cage, your an idiot. If you are running stock seat with a cage you’ll be ringing ur head on it if your anything over 5’10 with these cars.

Andrew.

or solve all your problems and get the apc plastic roll cage…

lmao

tack welding (which is what stitch welding is) doesnt add heat at all, well it does but not enough to warp the metal, just enough to penetratre into the metal.and you said there are better ways to stiffen the “frame”, not the “whole” car. in fact i can only think of one way to stiffen the “frame” and that would be to put braces in between the 2 frame rails.
even to seam weld the car (connecting all the tack welds), if you know how to do it properly, wont add any unneccessary heat.
i appologize, sorry paul and sorry BAS
i clearly said tacking DOES add heat. and in MY opinion adding a cage to a daily driven car is unnecessary. and in MY opinion flux core is gay unless your welding outside on a windy day.

anyways can my thread stop being jacked, it was intended for people who want welding done to there car. and yeah i realize i’ve jacked my own thread too. but if your not asking for me to do welding on your vehicle, or inquiring about a specific process, please dont post anything. if everyone wants to have a heated debate about roll cages someone make a thread. and yes i also understand everyone’s points about roll cages being safe, cuz they are to an extent. all my POV’s were from a POV which no one seems to take.

so who wants welding done?

It’s anyones perogitive to supply a counter point to anything else. In this case it IS warrented to supply someone who’s not knowledgeable with information to work with… to allow them to make an informed decision. ALlowing someone to go in with thier eyes open is something you should want to have. Not something you want to discourage.

Oh come on guys, you know that i am never wrong.

section 62. (1) as pertaining to Lamps

  1. (1) When on a highway at any time from one-half hour before sunset to one-half hour after sunrise and at any other time when, due to insufficient light or unfavourable atmospheric conditions, persons and vehicles on the highway are not clearly discernible at a distance of 150 metres or less, every motor vehicle other than a motorcycle shall carry three lighted lamps in a conspicuous position, one on each side of the front of the vehicle which shall display a white or amber light only, and one on the rear of the vehicle which shall display a red light only. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 62 (1).

this is the section of the HTA that applies to kids with blue bulbs or green bulbs or even yellow bulbs.

this is the section of the act that you are ticketed under for such infractions.

not all provinces / countries have such legislation, i am assuming that many places in Europe either dont have it or are more permissive and so the same lamp systems they use on euro cars over there are used on the cars over here.

you can be ticketed because the OEM equipment is not HTA approved. however, it may be DOT approved because they are different governing bodies.

in many US states the Lancer EVO is illegal because the wing obstructs the drivers rear view. there have been persons ticketed in New York State for it and they lost when they went to fight.

just because it comes like that from the factory doesnt mean that it is legal.

the HTA also has the same legislation for the obstructing of view and it could be applied to roll cages although i dont see any specific mention of roll cages.

that section is section 73 (1)

Equipment obstructing view

Signs, objects, etc.

  73. (1) No person shall drive a motor vehicle upon a highway,

     (a) with any sign, poster or other non-transparent material or object placed on the windshield or on any window of such motor vehicle; or

     (b) with any object placed in, hung on or attached to the motor vehicle,

in a manner that will obstruct the driver’s view of the highway or any intersecting highway. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 73 (1).

other than that i guess there isnt anything in the HTa that says you cant have a cage, but if you have a cross bar that goes infront or diagonal down across the car behind the front seats you could be ticketed under this section.

sr20’s are illegal according to the hta…so is your mom…bla bla bla.

site the number in the hta or it’s all HEARSAY.

this is just like all the idiots that tell me i need a RHD sticker on my car, do you actually read the HTA?
word.

provide section numbers; otherwise never quote the hta or refer to hta illegal this or hta illegal that (when referring to not-so-obvious things)
Like I said… as long as the Cage does not “obstruct” your vision throu any windows or mirrors and you are still able to get in/out of the car as well as roll down the windows then the MTO will allow you to have a Cage in your Car.

Its Insurance that you’ll have the problem with

about the welding???

welding is super cool, wish i could do it… well not really

i sent you pics already i need driver side frame and trunk :stuck_out_tongue:

  1. Antonio (Solarian)
  2. Chris (srtwin)

that car that’s been sprayed black you’ve used as an example on the front page is that a car you did ? or are you just using it as an example of spot welding?
