Ok so this past season I took the MSF Beginner Course, got my license, and got my bike (07 SV650S). I do like my bike but I feel like I need…more. So I’m thinking of selling it and going larger. So I ask what would some of you seasoned riders suggest? I’m a pretty conservative rider, dont do much dumb shit other than go way too fast occasionally if the road is clear ( no flaming we all do it and you know it). I’m thinking of either a 750-1000.
I went from a 99 GSXR 600 to an 02 GSXR 1000. I can say without shame the 1000 scared me from time to time and I know I wasn’t pushing it like experienced riders could. My plan for the next one will be a 750…unless or course a sweet deal on another 1000 comes along.
Hear ya.6’-1, 275 (ish). People think the circus is in town when I’m on a bike. That’s why I like early 2000 era bikes. Today’s bikes keep getting smaller.
new litre bikes are just as small as the 600s, I have a 2011 gsxr six with some go fast parts, it screams, i dont mind riding it in the upper rpms because thats where they make the power, but besides that its really not that small compared to a new 1000. your gonna find your self using no where near the power that litre bike has, riding around at 6 ,7 k , not even in the power band, take a newer 600 out with just some gearing done to it you will be surprised, its no sv650, and if you decide to go get a new gsxr Hebelers is the only place to go!
I loved my z1000. Faster than a 600, not at fast as an SS 1000 but way more comfortable. I had dirtbike bars and mufflers on it and it was one of the most fun bikes I’ve ever ridden.
I’m upgrading for power, not physical size, I’m not buying new, nor would going down from the 650 to a 600 be worth it…or make any sense. I’m good on the SV but as I said I just feel I need more bike
Think beyond displacement here, I think a 600 sport bike is going to be a good upgrade from the SV650. If you want to stand alone from the 600s, get a Kawi 636!
Shoot me an offer theblue, lots of new stuff this past season, and livin4hockey, I’ve ridden a Ninja 636…wasnt impressed, the twins low end gut is gonna be hard to beat. I did take a friends 09 ZX10R out for a couple days and loved it, big and comfortable, plenty of power too. also enjoyed the Busa I rode for a little bit too. The ZX14R was a wee bit too bulky I thought
